Emma Raducanu is quite apprehensive about what she consumes to save herself from failing drug tests. Raducanu talked about the doping controversy that has been a hot topic since August this season.

Men’s World No.1 Jannik Sinner was the first high-profile player this season to fail a drug test (twice in March). While Sinner’s case was made public in August, that same month, World No. 2 Iga Swiatek tested positive. Raducanu commented on the doping stories and talked about what she does to avoid contamination.

I think in general, not just me but a lot of the players I know, we’re quite apprehensive.

Raducanu is wary of supplements getting easily contaminated. She revealed that there were certain supplements she would need at times but if they were over-the-counter and were not batch-tested she avoided using them.

To batch test something is £1,000 for one little thing, so it’s very expensive. For the things that you really, really need to take, then it’s obviously worth that, but you just have to cut out a lot of things that you wouldn’t necessarily take. I’m very careful with what I drink, what I eat. If I leave my water around, I’m very on edge about it.

Emma Raducanu added

Sinner was contaminated due to his ex-physio who was using a spray that contained the banned substance clostebol. Swiatek on the other hand was taking a contaminated melatonin which had trimetazidine.

As both these players accidentally consumed the banned substances and a small amount of them were present in their samples, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed that the two players bore no fault or negligence.

Emma Raducanu feels strong and fit for 2025 season

Injuries have stopped Emma Raducanu from playing many matches. This season, while World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka played 70 matches, the 22-year-old could play just 36.

After skipping the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open, she blamed herself for not playing enough following her first-round elimination at the US Open. She signed up for several tournaments on the Asian swing but could play just at the Korea Open where, after losing the first game against Daria Kasatkina in the quarterfinals, she withdrew from the match due to a foot injury.

Raducanu then made a comeback at the Billie Jean King Cup. She has now hired Grand Slam champions Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka‘s former fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura to her team and is positive that the collaboration would bring her results.

I feel really strong. I feel really fit. The only thing I can’t really speak for, is I haven’t played that many matches.

Raducanu wants to play at the Adelaide International before the Australian Open where she would be hoping to go past the second round.
