Emma Raducanu won his debut match at the Australian Open 2022 this Tuesday. By winning her first game Raducanu managed toput all the speculation around her game behind her as she won her match convincingly.
Johanna Konta the former British tennis player commented on Raducanu’s win, said that “reaching the third round at Australian Open would be a success for her,”
Emma Raducanu diporves speculation around her game
Emma Raducanu had a really bad season before the beginning of the Australian Open. She lost her first match in a tournament down under at Sydney.
However, cometh the hour, cometh the man, Raducanu in her debut match against another US Open winner Sloane Stephens won her match in 3-sets 6-0, 2-6, 6-1. The 19-year-old managed to beat one of the toughest opponents that she could’ve faced in round one.
One might think that such a great performance in her debut match would silence the speculation around her game but the former British tennis player Johanna Konta passed a snarky comment on Raducanu’s first win at the Australian Open, she said, “She hasn’t faced a really top-ranked player before so I think it will be great for her to play someone who knows how to compete well, who knows how to play on these courts well, I would definitely say to her to trust her instincts and to really bring her game to the court. Obviously, she’s been to the latter stages of a Grand Slam in her second-ever Grand Slam, which is unheard of. It’s never happened before, unlikely it will ever happen again,”
Konta added, “It’s a really interesting position that she’s in. However, she’s going to be learning on the ground about working her way through draws. For me, a successful Slam for her would be to make it to the third round and to have that match-up with Simona. Each tough match she gets to play is going to do her so much good in the long run.”
Emma Raducanu will face the Montenegrin player Danka Kovinić in her second-round fixture this Thursday.
