Emmanuel Clase‘s MLB future is in huge jeopardy. Amidst the investigation by the league regarding sports betting, his locker room in the Cleveland Guardians clubhouse has been cleared.
The baseball world was left in shock when the MLB placed Clase under non-disciplinary paid leave this past week. The 3-time All-Star is alleged to have been involved in sports betting. He is not the only Guardians star to be in trouble.
Earlier this year, pitcher Luis Ortiz was also placed on a similar leave by the league on the same sports betting charge. Clase’s teammate was placed on leave following two suspicious pitches, one against the Seattle Mariners and one against the St. Louis Cardinals this year.
As per The Athletic’s Zack Meisel, the locker rooms of both Clase and Ortiz have been cleared by the Cleveland Guardians. This typically means that the ballclub has moved on from the two players and do not see them returning to the team.

Meanwhile, MLB insider Bob Nightengale floated the idea of these two pitchers ever pitching again in the MLB following the investigation.

The two players are currently on leave till August 31. A decision regarding their future can take a while. If the two of them are found to have gambled on their own games and made pitching errors on purpose, there is a huge chance that they could be banned for life under Rule 21 of the MLB rulebook.
Guardians drop sports betting sponsor from lineup post following Emmanuel Clase’ scandal
Emmanuel Clase became the talk of the town this past week for all the wrong reasons. The closing pitcher became the 2nd Cleveland Guardians star to be placed on non-disciplinary paid leave amid investigation of sports betting. Following this development, the Guardians dropped a sports betting sponsor from their lineup posts.

The Guardians used to display “Bet365” under the lineup post on social media. After the Clase incident broke out, several social media users pointed out this sponsorship of theirs with the betting site and slammed them.
A day after he was placed on leave, the Guardians would drop the name of the betting company from their posts. Since then, the Guardians have not featured their name in any of their posts announcing the team’s official lineup.
Before this incident, Clase made 48 appearances for the team this year. In the 47.1 innings he pitched, he managed to pick up 47 strikeouts while having an ERA of 3.23 and 24 saves.
Last season, he had an extremely low ERA of 0.61 and led the American League in saves with 47. He led the AL in saves in each of his last three seasons and became a centerpiece of the Guardians’ bullpen.
Guardians on 3-game winning run following leave of Emmanuel Clase
The Cleveland Guardians have had a mixed season so far. At times, the team has looked great and at other times, the team has looked vulnerable. They are currently on a roll, though, and have won 3 straight games since the leave of Emmanuel Clase.

While the Guardians did lose the first game without Clase as their bullpen blew the save against the Colorado Rockies, the team has since then won 3 straight games. After a 10-4 and 5-0 win against the Rockies, the Guardians took down their division rivals, the Minnesota Twins, 3-2 in extra innings on Friday.

With the win, the Guardians once again went past the .500 win percentage mark. Their 55-54 record keeps them 8 games behind the Detroit Tigers (64-47) in the race for the first spot in the AL Central Division.
