Emma Raducanu was no match for Sofia Kenin when the two locked horns in the first round of the US Open on Grandstand court. Raducanu struggled a lot in the first set and though she tried to forge a comeback, the American ended up beating Raducanu 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

Yeah, you know, I feel down okay. I feel sad. Obviously this is the tournament I really wanted to do well.
Emma Raducanu said at the press conference

Kenin, who like Raducanu is unseeded in the tournament, is searching for her second Grand Slam title after winning the Australian Open in 2020. She will next face compatriot Jessica Pegula, who is sixth seed in the tournament. The 25-year-old is also playing doubles along with compatriot Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

Emma Raducanu wants to make changes to her schedule

Emma Raducanu has been strictly managing her schedule this season and while it proved to be a success during the grass-court season, Raducanu blamed lack of match practice on hard court for the US Open defeat. Raducanu played one tournament on the hard court before arriving in New York for the season’s last Grand Slam event.

I would have probably played a little bit more. When I have a lot of matches, just like every player, you feel really good, you feel like everything's automatic. So yeah, I think I can learn from it and manage my schedule slightly differently maybe.
Emma Raducanu said

Raducanu skipped the French Open to prepare for Wimbledon and played decently there and in the grass-court tournaments preceding the Wimbledon. She later decided to skip the Paris Olympics like many of her colleagues.

Following the Olympics however, after not being given the wild cards for the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open, the 21-year-old decided to skip both. She played just the Citi Open on the North American hard-court swing, reaching the quarterfinals where eventual winner Paula Badosa knocked her out in three sets.

Raducanu won the US Open back in 2021 when she played as a qualifier and since then, she failed to clinch her second trophy on the WTA Tour. One of the tournaments Raducanu has set her eyes on is the Korea Open, which starts next month.
