Fans were left angered over the England national team, following their disappointing 2-1 defeat to Greece at the Wembley Stadium. It marked interim manager Lee Carsley’s first loss, since taking up the reigns of the national team from Gareth Southgate

The Three Lions slumped to a shock defeat to Greece, as manager Carsley’s new attacking strategy backfired. In the absence of skipper Harry Kane, the manager decided to field Jude Bellingham in a false nine position, assisted by Phil Foden as a second striker. Apart from the two, Carsley also fielded Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon in the midfield. However, the new strategy failed, as a well-organized Greek side inflicted England’s first defeat since the Euro final against Spain.

Greece drew first blood, as Vangelis Pavlidis scored the brilliant opening goal in the 49th minute of the match. Bellingham scored an 87th minute equalizer, helped by an assist from Dominic Solanke. It looked like the home side had successfully held their opponents to a draw, but a late 94th minute goal from Pavlidis helped Greece earn a much-deserved victory. The visitors took advantage of England’s weak defensive display, as they scored five goals, three of them ruled out due to off-side.

The defeat has now pushed the Three Lions to the second position in the Nations League group. They have six points from three matches, while top-placed Greece has nine points from three matches. The Three Lions next face Finland at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium.
