Erik ten Hag is staying! After months of speculation as to whether the Manchester United boss will part ways with the club, there has been official communication that the Dutchman will continue at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future. Prominent transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that INEOS management have communicated their decision to the manager.
Ten Hag has had an extremely difficult season with the Red Devils. From an all-time low finish of 8th in the Premier League to a group stage exit in the Champions League, United have had a season to forget. However, as if to salvage their disastrous season, Ten Hag led his side to a trophy in the final game of their season.
Triumph against Manchester City in the final of the FA Cup managed to convince both fans and management alike that he is the man to take the club forward. However, this too comes as a surprise, given the fact that the club had decided to sack Ten Hag irrespective of the result in the final.
A bold Ten Hag claimed after the final that he’ll go elsewhere and win trophies if United don’t want him!
Fans react to Manchester United putting their trust on Erik ten Hag once again
Erik ten Hag took charge of Manchester United back in April 2022. The Dutchman’s time at the club has been filled with disappointing results, both in the League as well as in Europe.
Fans reacted contrastingly to the club’s decision to let Ten Hag continue as head coach. A fan laughed at how the Red Devils will drop to tenth position next season after they finished the 2023/24 campaign in eighth spot.
Another fan however, could only imagine how awkward it must be for Ten Hag. It was no secret that the club were searching for new managers to take charge of the club, ranging from Mauricio Pochettino to Thomas Tuchel and Kieran McKenna. Supporters laughed at how United couldn’t find someone else to take over quickly enough and were forced to fall back on Ten Hag again.
Rival fans added that Ten Hag staying meant six free points for them next season. However, loyal Manchester United fans and Ten Hag supporters breathed a sigh of relief and were confident that he’ll do better next season. Another jokingly added that at least Gareth Southgate wasn’t taking charge as United manager. Ten Hag’s side accumulated a ‘meagre’ 60 points from 38 League games.
