On Friday, the New York Giants recently announced they are parting ways with Daniel Jones after the quarterback requested to be released. Just one day prior, the quarterback delivered a heartfelt message, expressing his gratitude to the Giants’ organization and the fans of the team.

While fans were sympathetic to him and wished him the best for his future endeavors, one ESPN analyst mocked him over his press conference. Elle Duncan was not impressed with Daniel Jones‘ farewell message. The quarterback had written down his speech, as it would be easier for him to articulate himself and stay on track if he got emotional.

Duncan had a sarcastic retort to DJ reading from a piece of paper.

I’m sorry, you’ve to write this down? Didn’t you go to Duke?

Elle Duncan said

It didn’t stop there. She went on to call him out by saying he probably had this speech written a while ago.

You guys think he had this saved in his notes since like 2020? In all seriousness, DJ, I could have saved you like 90 seconds. A rewrite: I’m sorry you paid me $108 million for one playoff win. And I look forward to reviving my career as Brock Purdy’s backup. The end.

Elle Duncan added

She chose to put down Jones and all of his contributions to the Giants by adopting an unprofessional tone while reacting to an athlete’s professional statement.

Giants’ VP of Communications and social media called out Elle Duncan over her criticism of Daniel Jones

There is no arguing that the quarterback vastly under-delivered as a franchise quarterback. However, being demoted abruptly mid-season to a third-string quarterback and then becoming a scout-team safety are some of the most disrespectful things a franchise can do to their quarterback, irrespective of how badly he has played. The least that Jones deserves is to go out with dignity.

Elle Duncan’s comments infuriated Pat Hanlon, the Giants’ PR executive who took to X to call her out.

That an ESPN personality would mock Daniel Jones’ statement today is mind boggling. Given what what has happened at that company over past few years, tone deaf.

Pat Hanlon wrote on X

Hanlon referred to the organization firing many of its analysts on short notice and lashed out at Duncan for not understanding the situation.

Others on the Internet also joined in to support Jones.

Daniel Jones would not have played another snap for the Giants had he stayed with the team until the end of the season. The quarterback requested to be released, as it would allow him to seek employment elsewhere. It is uncertain where Jones will wind up next.

It should not be that far off a fetch to expect him in a Cowboys jersey. After all, the team lost Dak Prescott for the rest of the season. Jerry Jones has praised DJ in the past, and he is better than Cooper Rush.
