Elden Ring: How to complete Iron Fist Alexander’s questline
The Iron Fist Alexander questline is a lengthy one in Elden Ring, but one of the most memorable one, that's filled with combat, humor & a sentimental ending.
When we hear Elden Ring, two things come to our minds. The great, expansive, and awe-inspiring world is infused with the spirit of exploration and conquest. Or flashbacks of our deaths, over and over, from the most trivial of things like a humanoid rolling frog. But there’s another thing we usually forget. The NPC interactions we do as a part of our explorations are a delicacy in itself. Simply interacting with these NPCs may start a questline, which would give us a generous reward upon completion. Additionally, some of these questlines are so rich in storytelling that we develop a deep connection to a particular NPC. One such questline in Elden Ring is the Iron Fist Alexander’s questline.
Iron Fist Alexander
We all love the NPC Millicent, but there’s another NPC the player base absolutely adores. One of the most friendly NPCs that you come across in Elden Ring is the Iron Fist Alexander. He’s so soft-spoken and friendly that players just adore the guy from the first time they encounter him. The Iron Fist Alexander is a big Living Jar who, one day, decided to leave his home in quest of excitement. He wanted to become a powerful warrior, so he started out on his journey. Additionally, he is available to players as an NPC Summon cooperator, allowing him to fight alongside them in combat. So, not only is Alexander such a lovable NPC, but he is also quite useful.
Alexander’s lengthy and complex quest has encountered at practically every turn in your progression through the Lands Between. Below is a general description of each meeting, followed by a more thorough examination of the steps. Some of these actions, like the first two, are optional but will contribute to his overall tale and fill out the quest line. You must also pursue the Jar Bairn and Diallos stories to complete the quest. Here is the complete Alexander’s questline in Elden Ring if you’re ready to embark on your Jar-warrior adventure:

WESTERN STORMHILL: Starting location of the Iron Fist Alexander’s Questline
East of Stormveil Castle, in Stormhill, is where Alexander is first discovered. He is stuck in the ground by the site of grace, heading onto a bridge with a Mad Pumpkin Head. There’s also a hostile enemy camp nearby. He’ll call for aid, and you’ll know when you’re nearby.
I am Alexander, also known as the Iron Fist. And as you can see, I’m stuck here.
Alexander will ask you to use a charged attack to knock him free. So stand behind him and deliver him a few blows with whatever you’re holding. Alexander will talk extensively about himself and the Radahn Festival before moving on to his next venue and stopping to rest at a site of grace.
Second Location: The land marred by scarlet rot, Caelid’s Gael Tunnel
Early in Caelid, in Gael Tunnel, the Jar-warrior quest will make its next stop. Bonus: The incredible Moonveil Katana, one of Elden Ring’s strongest weapons, is also located there. You can contact Alexander through a back entrance to the tunnel in Limgrave. However, to hear everything he has to say and complete the dungeon, you need to enter through the Caelid main entrance, as shown above.
Explore and clear the dungeon and unlock the door to the boss room to defeat a Magma Wrym. Alexander is nearby on the other side of the boss room door. When Alexander has finished speaking, he will depart for the Radahn Festival.
Third Step: The Redmane Castle and the Radahn Festival
You can find Alexander in the Redmane Castle courtyard before the Radahn boss fight, provided you have unlocked Radahn’s Festival through Ranni’s quest or by traveling to the Altus Plateau. It’s conceivable that this is your first time meeting him if you missed the other opportunities.
When facing off against Starscourge Radahn, Alexander will be a summonable ally. Players can call on Alexander and other NPC fighters to aid them in the arduous fight against Radahn. The summoning symbols are scattered over the battleground. Furthermore, summoning does not depend on completing the first two questline steps. After defeating Radahn and taking the time to recuperate at his Site of Grace, players can find Alexander nearby. You will find Alexander eating the remains of other dead warriors to grow stronger. Once players have finished speaking with him, Alexander will move on to the next area.
Making preparations for the fourth step
We need to make some preparation for the next step in Alexander’s questline. The next time Alexander gets stuck, he’ll need some item help. Just smacking the adorable guy this time won’t work. It is frustrating that the only method to get the Oil Pot item he needs can only be crafted using the Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook [17]. You can purchase this from the Nomadic Merchant located in the Siofra River underground area.
From the Siofra River Bank site of grace, proceed north while dodging your foes. You can climb the second set of pillars on your way, thanks to some scaffolding. Once there, climb the scaffolding into the cliff face to the point where you can descend and speak with the merchant. To make each pot, players need two Cracked Pots and one Melted Mushroom in addition to the cookbook, which costs 1,000 runes.
Fourth Encounter: Alexander and the town of Jars, Jarburg, in Liurnia
The location of Alexander is now in east-central Liurnia of the Lakes, close to the Caria Study Hall and the Artist’s Shack place of grace. He returned to look at Jarburg, his hometown, which is significant to his questline. His big body is once again trapped in the earth. Throw at him a couple of the Oil Pots you made, oil him up, and then whack him with some more charged heavy weapon assaults.
It’s a good idea to go to his homeland of Jarburg to speak with Jar Bairn after exhausting all of Alexander’s available lines. You may descend to that place by following the enormous gravestones that protrude from the rock close to where Alexander was. The questline for Diallos Hoslow, another NPC, includes Jarburg and Jar Bairn, who both play significant roles in the conclusion of Alexander’s quest, provide some context for his travels, and appear prominently.
Fifth Step: The Jar-warrior at Mount Gelmir
Alexander has since traveled to Mount Gelmir in the north to “bake his clay body in the heat of the lava and strengthen himself.” Southwest of the Seethewater Terminus Site of Grace is where you would find Alexander. Although it may not always be immediately apparent on maps of Elden Ring, players can locate this zone by following the canyon from the Seethewater River Site of Grace located in the western Altus Plateau. Note: While Patches may kick players down to this area if they follow his Rainbow Stones near where Anastasia, Tarnished Eater, invades, it cannot be accessed from the Volcano Manor.
There is a Magma Wyrm boss fight between the Seethewater Terminus and Alexander’s location. Keep in mind that although its moveset is the same as the one you faced in Gael Tunnel, it has been powered up for this particular level of the game. Alexander will start calling as you approach him.
You can walk on lava, and it won’t hurt you much and just slow you down. Near Alexander’s location, there is a sizable island in the lava where you can speak with him and accept his gift- a crafted jar helmet. Even after you’ve used up all of his dialogue, Alexander will stay until after the Fire Giant boss fight.
Bonus help from Alexander
For the battle against the Fire Giant boss, Alexander will once more be available for summon. You may advance his mission without summoning him, much like the Radahn boss fight. The next time you may talk to him is in one of the game’s last stages since he is not reachable anyplace on the Mountaintops.
End of the Jar-warrior quest: The Final Bout and a Warrior’s funeral
This is the last step of the Iron Fist Alexander’s questline in Elden Ring. Alexander will show up in Crumbling Farum Azula at the marked spot above. To get to him, you’ll need a Stonesword Key and battle a bunch of undead beastmen in the Dragon Temple Lift Site of Grace.
Alexander’s last request to us, the Tarnished.
- Ah, I see you’ve finally made it here yourself. The city hanging in the air is slowly crumbling. What an incredible place we find ourselves.
But that aside, you’re certainly a force to be reckoned with, eh.
I doubt there’s a single soul who could’ve handled that giant, other than you. It was practically a god…
Of course I count myself, the great Alexander, among the many.
Which means, I’ve but one thing to ask of you. Would you kindly undertake my ordeal?
Come and tell me when you’re ready. I’ve been longing to fight a warrior as accomplished as you.
Alexander’s call for combat to death signals a tragic conclusion to the tale. Compared to the typical Living Jars, he uses a lot more attacks, and if he wins, you can challenge him again. Be aware that as Alexander’s journey advances, the dragon that is typically present at this stage will disappear, suggesting Alexander has previously vanquished it.
When you defeat him and speak to Alexander one last time upon which, he will reply:
- My thanks, I knew you were the stuff of champions. It was a marvellous battle.
I implore you, take what I bequeath…from inside me… All vessels are destined to one day break.
But the great Alexander lived as a warrior to his last! Ha ha ha ha!
You will receive a Warrior Jar Shard, a powerful talisman that enhances Ashes of War and Alexander’s Innards, as a reward for defeating the Iron Fist Alexander.
The Iron Fist Alexander’s questline is one of the most memorable questlines of Elden Ring. Filled with adventures, camaraderie, humourous moments, and a melancholic end. If you need a tear-jerking moment in Elden Ring, apart from the death caused by mobs and boss fights, do complete this quest.
