Riot Games is launching the Global Open Beta of Premier mode in Valorant this month. This new team-based competitive platform will allow players to build their roster and compete in pre-scheduled games. The Premier is Riot’s brainchild for players to have a better chance to be part of the pro system. This will give players across all regions the opportunity to become esports professionals. The primary objective of Valorant Premier is to provide players with even higher competition than ranked mode.

One big drawback of the current ranked system in Valorant is solo queue. Players often struggle if they face stronger opponents and even worse if they have bad teammates.

When Premier launches, a full-screen takeover will feature the new mode. On the homepage, players can access Premier as the second entry under the Play tab. The first time players visit the Premier Hub, an explanation modal will pop up.

On May 3, a test tournament will be held in all regions for Premier. This is a technical test to ensure the services are ready for the Playoff Tournament at the end of Open Beta. The tournament structure will be the same as the Playoff Tournament, with a best-of-one format and Consolation bracket. All Premier teams are eligible to participate, but winning the test tournament will not impact standings, Premier Score, win/loss record, or eligibility for the Playoff Tournament. There will be no rewards for winning the test tournament.

Enrollment Process and rules

The Premier mode will have an enrollment period from April 25 to 28, with weekly matches taking place from April 29 to May 20, followed by the Playoff Tournament on May 21.

Players need to follow these steps in order join the premier beta:

  • To create or join a Premier team, you must meet two conditions: identity verification and finishing your placements to determine your matchmaking rating (MMR).
  • Identity verification requires SMS verification to confirm your account.
  • If you have already completed your placements, you will skip the MMR verification step and can proceed directly to team creation or joining.
  • If you meet both conditions, you will see the option to create or join a team in the Premier mode.

During enrollment, the Team Owner will select a zone and receive recommendations based on the two pods with the lowest average latency. Team Owner’s ping will determine the latency of the team. If a zone has multiple pods, players will be matchmade based on ping as usual.

Once weekly matches begin, roster changes will only be allowed if they do not affect the division. In other words, Teams can make changes that do not impact the team’s standing or rankings.

Lastly, once you have completed your first Premier match, you will be granted the Premier Beta participation banner and title. To equip these items, simply log in the next day and visit your collection. Similarly, if you win the Playoff tournament, you will unlock the Premier Beta Champions banner and title. Apart from that the next phase of the Primer will return in April 2023. Riot disclosed that they plan to launch this format properly just after VCT Champions concludes in August 2023.
