Fortnite Festival, added in the new Fortnite chapter, branches away from the classic Fortnite mode by allowing players to participate in Guitar Hero-styled jam sessions. The mode is even designed by the Guitar Hero game developer Harmonix. This makes fans wonder whether they can use a Guitar Controller in Fortnite Festival Mode.

The Fortnite Festival mode can be played solo or alongside other friends. The mode supports up to four players and will enable players to choose from their favourite blockbuster tracks. The mode also features Jam Tracks. These are songs you can perform in the Fortnite Festival game mode. There are also lobby songs that you can modify and remix in the Fortnite Festival Jam Stage mode.

The game mode currently requires you to use the D, F, J, K, and Space keys on the PC and the D-pad, triggers and buttons on controllers. While these controls are mostly fine, they do sometimes feel clunky. Due to this reason, players and nostalgic fans of the original game wish to use the Guitar Controller in Fortnite Festival mode.

Unfortunately, Epic Games does not provide support for a Guitar Controller in Fortnite Festival mode. However, they did address the issue in a Fortnite Festival blog post. The developers said that including instrumental controllers is a priority for the team. They will be announcing more about this in 2024.

However, you can utilise several creative workarounds to connect a guitar controller in Fortnite Festival Mode. Unfortunately, these are only available for the PC version of Fortnite. For example, you can use the JoytoKey application to bind your guitar controller to keyboard bindings. To do so –

  • Install the JoytoKey app on your PC.
  • Launch the app
  • Set ‘controller output type’ to ‘keyboard.’
  • Bind the guitar controller buttons according to Fortnite Festival Mode controls.
  • Give the app “administration access” if prompted.
  • Launch Fortnite Festival Mode and use the controller.

The interesting part about this is that you can use the guitar controller not only in Fortnite festival mode but also in any video game you wish. Until Epic Games provides official support for the guitar controller in Fortnite Festival mode, players on the PC mode will have to suffice by using unofficial methods.
