After the initial Pubg ban, Krafton, the developer behind Pubg, launched BGMI in India on July 2, 2021. BGMI is the Indian version of Pubg, with the same game mechanics and engine but improved security. However, on July 28, 2022, the Indian government banned BGMI in violation of the Information Technology Act. That was a dark day for BGMI players, but as they say, at the end of the tunnel, there’s always light.

On August 3, 2022, Krafton announced that it had applied to the Indian government to lift the ban on BGMI. And things are looking good, as the ban on BGMI has been lifted. The co-founder of S8UL, one of the biggest eSports organizations in India, Thug Goldy Bhai, has revealed the release date of BGMI.

The ban imposed on BGMI was due to the government’s belief that the game threatened public order and national security. The appeal argued that the ban was unfair. Furthermore, it would deprive gamers of a popular and harmless form of entertainment. It also pointed out that the ban would hurt the Indian esports industry. The Indian eSports industry, as we know, is still in its growing stages. So, any form of unfair and unnecessary push can harm the foundations of the industry. And good news for gamers: on May 20, 2023, the Delhi High Court lifted the ban on BGMI.

Thug Goldy Bhai, a.k.a Lokesh Jain, in a recent video of his, talked about this ban upliftment of BGMI. Goldy Bhai co-founded S8UL, one of the biggest eSports Org in India. The fan-favorite Pubg/BGMI player, Naman “MortaL” Mathur, is also part of the Org. In their video, Goldy Bhai reveals what could be the potential release date for BGMI in India.

After some fierce legal pleas and court visits, Krafton won the case for the upliftment of the ban imposed on BGMI by the government. The court said that the government had not provided any evidence to support its claims. The claims made by the government against BGMI were that it was a potential threat to Public Order & National Security. Furthermore, the court also said that the ban had caused “irreparable harm” to the gaming industry in India.

The lifting of the ban is a major victory for Krafton and for gamers in India. It is also a positive development for the Indian esports industry. Thug Goldy Bhai, in a recent video of his, has dropped hints of the potential release date for BGMI. The potential date he mentioned is sometime after the 25th of May, 2023.

However, gamers should note that, currently, the game will launch with a trial period of 3 months. As per the Union Minister of State for Entrepreneurship, Skill Development, Electronics and Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the game will have a 3-month trial period. Moreover, this period would determine whether the game has any threatening features or potential harm to the players.

The government would be keeping a strict watch on the player base to identify anomalies. Only after the succession of this trial period would the game be permanently available in the market.

Another popular streamer, Hydra, reviewed this new change in her recent video. She urged the played base to remain nontoxic, so the trial period can be a success. She said,

“These three months are very crucial. So, I request you all to keep toxicity at a minimum. Stop spreading toxicity anywhere you feel like it. Just play and chill. The game will return with new modes and new updates. Try to enjoy them.

The re-launch of BGMI is good news for gamers and the eSports industry in India. Though gamers need to be very careful of their actions for these 3 months, It took months of extensive legal work to get the ban lifted. So players should be mindful and not do things that would jeopardize the existence of BGMI because another ban on this game would be a permanent one, which would heavily harm the eSports industry in India.
