With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, a new season means a new battle pass with plenty of content to be unlocked over the season. Several gamers, however, are dissatisfied with the seeming time investment required to finish the battle pass for season 2.
Since the start of Season 2 on February 15, players have been progressing through the battle pass. This is whether it is for the new weapon designs, bonuses, or in-game event focusing on operator Daniel “Ronin” Shinoda. Certain players are starting to feel the effects of a tight timeline. This is as it appears that as the current season is nearing its conclusion before season 3 begins.

Gamers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are displeased with the length of time it takes to unlock battle pass content

Most of the weapon challenges in the current season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 emphasize players’ ability to land headshots. Therefore, The Path of the Ronin is the event’s focal point. On March 15, a mid-season update under the name Season 2: Reloaded was released. It added new camouflage and weapon challenges, a new map. It also added a weapon that could be used in both Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer.
The more PvE-oriented gamers also got some attention. This was with the release of Special Ops Raid Episode 2 as part of the update that followed the first raid episode. Players are under pressure to finish the current battle pass before season 3 starts. This is because prior reloaded updates have frequently been mid-season updates. And this time some Modern Warfare 2 players seem to be in a race against time.
In a discussion on the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit, Reddit user HyperSocket expressed their displeasure at the length of time required to finish the battle pass. HyperSocket estimated that it would take them about 450 games to access all the material in approximately two months that the seasons have been available. However, this does not take into consideration Call of Duty’s bonus XP sources,

The sentiments expressed in the broader discussion by a number of users reflected those of HyperSocket regarding the seasonal time investment. Despite a general feeling of frustration, some gamers offered some of the routes they found efficient for finishing the battle pass more quickly. While others noted that DMZ and its numerous missions are a decent source of XP to contribute towards the battle pass, the bonus XP weekends were a recurrent suggestion.
Given how battle passes and seasonal setups have come to be the new normal, HyperSocket’s complaints of Modern Warfare 2’s current battle pass and seasonal structure might also be applicable to the greater gaming industry. Many online games with substantial users already have a fear of missing out. Whether it’s because of an in-game live event or a feature that’s only available during a particular season.
