Video games have seen quite a considerable boom in popularity recently. Furthermore, almost every year, games are coming up that totally sweep away the market. And console sales like PlayStation and Xbox are at an all-time high. Additionally, video game events have become a platform for studios, developers & companies to reveal their upcoming projects. However, one such event, the Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3, has officially shut down after over 2 decades!

Our culture has grown inextricably linked to gaming. The concept of games has spread due to the abundance of video game developers, franchises, and consoles available. Moreover, for many people, playing video games is an integral part of their everyday lives or routines. It also serves as a getaway for many. Furthermore, explosive reveals are something gamers love. Even the Game Awards 2023, which happened recently, had many new game reveals in it!

Moreover, companies look forward to gaming events considering the gaming community’s huge success and expansion! Events like this are the best platform to showcase many really popular upcoming game trailers or announcements! E3 was a really successful event, but it is now ending after over two decades of being one of the best gaming expos of all time!

Finally, E3 is concluding after years of thrilling fans worldwide with trailers, game announcements, and many world premieres. The event has been declining for some time now. According to a recent announcement by the Electronic Software Association (ESA), the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is officially closing for good.

E3 officially shuts down after a long decline

Video game enthusiasts worldwide have turned to E3 for information for more than 20 years. The event has had some really explosive reveals so far, from Devil May Cry 5 to God of War 2018 and many such popular games! E3 always had a huge number of exhibitors at its event. However, for years, the event was declining at a rapid pace. Finally, revealed in 2019, E3 lost nearly one-third of its exhibitors between 2017 and 2019, going from 293 to 209.

Moreover, the Covid lockdown era, an excellent time for the gaming community to flourish, led to irreversible damage to E3. The convention was halted due to the lockdown period, and the last event was conducted in the year 2019. And with the decline in their revenue, audience, and overall exposure, ESA is now shutting down E3 after over a 2-decade run. E3’s official X handle recently released a post, marking their end and addressed fans, saying,

“After more than two decades of E3, each one bigger than the last, the time has come to say goodbye. Thank you for the memories. GGWP!”

This disheartens fans; however, considering how much the event had declined, it was to be expected. Events like the PlayStation Showcase, Game Awards, and others have flourished way more than E3, and the general interest of the fan base and community has shifted from the event. Although fans will always cherish all the memories that E3 made, every good thing certainty comes to an end.
