Battlefield will return with a new look, said the developers, Dice Media. Well, it has to, as Battlefield 2042 was an utter disaster from the get-go. It promised a more fun and immersive gameplay experience compared to its predecessor. However, die-hard fans of the franchise were left gutted by the lackluster game performance and, most of all, the horrible netcode. Unsurprisingly, the hype of the game died down very quickly, and players did not want to go back.

Recently, though, it seems things were changing as the player base increased somewhat, and they reported the game had become somewhat enjoyable, although most of the flaws remained. EA has been churning out one update after the other, hoping to please the community. However, that won’t be the case; the game is doomed to fade away into the depths of the failed gaming abyss.

As proof, the Mobile version of the Battle Royale game stopped all of its operations. The day isn’t far away when Battlefield 2042 shuts down its servers for good. But if EA is to be believed, there is still hope for a better game in the future.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson spoke during the company’s latest investor report call and highlighted that he has “extraordinary confidence” in the Battlefield leadership team and its capabilities. Their past exploits prove his point that they can make a good game to rival the likes of Call of Duty and Fortnite.

During the call, the name Battlefield popped up quite a few times. He emphasized quite a bit on the FPS game, saying that they need to take charge of the project and that “it can bring [Battelfiled] back in an entirely new way in the future.”

Moreover, during the Q&A part of the call, Wilson provided more information about how the Battlefield project is progressing. He said that Battlefield would be a meaningful part of things going forward. However, he did mention that they don’t have any dates to announce when we will get a concrete story about the new Battlefield game.

Now, whether or not EA and Dice manage to create an entirely new outlook for Battlefield, only time will tell. The time is ripe as Call of Duty itself is on thin ice as the COD community does not like Warzone 2 very much. Modern Warfare 2 even though received a substantial update, still feels way off the pace. However, Infinity Ward and Activision did deal with some major announcements. They revealed the name of the next Call of Duty game titled ‘Modern Warfare 3.’ Moreover, Warzone 2 started beta testing the ‘Ranked’ game mode.

For EA to close the distance between its game Battlefield and its rivals, it needs something innovative. They need to keep in mind what made Battlefield 2042 a flop in the first place and start from there.
