Global Esports has been in controversy for quite a long time

Global Esports shuts down its BGMI operation following the controversies involving Team Mayavi and GE Phoenix

Global Esports is a big name in the Indian eSports scene. The org has been competing in different eSports such as Valorant, Overwatch and notably BGMI. GE has a good foothold in the BGMI scene and even supports two other BGMI teams, Team Mayavi and Team GE Pheonix. However, its BGMI operation is now coming to a halt as Global Esports has announced that they are exiting the BGMI competitive scene and shutting its operation for good.

This news came out a few weeks after they departed from the ongoing BGIS tournament. The team led by Mavi failed to make it out of round 2 and their journey was cut short too early despite having some big names. However, according to the sources, this is not the primary reason for org leaving the competitive. The org has been suffering from bad PR for quite a time and finally, they are pulling out.

More than a month ago, a popular BGMI content creator Snehilop Gaming alleged that Team Mayavi, backed by Global Esports has been using hacks. He claimed that they were cheating during the BGMI eSports tournaments and tarnishing the purity and integrity of the Indian eSports scene. His videos targeting Team Mayavi started getting attention from the community and players like Scout also reacted to this.

In addition to taking a shot on Team Mayavi, the YouTuber also accused GE Pheonix, another team affiliated with Global Esports, is using the wrong measures to play in BGIS: The Grind 2023. These allegations got so much attraction that fans in the community started labelling GE as a cheating organization. The backlash became so huge that Global Esports’ CEO Dr. Rushindra Sinha had to release a whole open letter and urge Krafton to look into this.

“Once the investigation is complete, we will eagerly await the findings and recommendations from Krafton. Depending on the outcome, we are prepared to take swift and appropriate action as an organization, in line with the values of integrity and sportsmanship that we hold dear.”

Now fast forwarding to today, it has been revealed that they are leaving BGMI eSports and shutting down their operations. Rushindra Sinha released a video of him explaining why they are exiting BGMI. He revealed that he asked Mayavi about these accusations and all. Mr Sinha also claimed that they have sent video proofs of players showing clean gameplay to relevant parties. However, it was not helping the org and was tarnishing its image in total.

He said,” I don’t care who is hacking, not hacking. It is causing negative PR to my company to everything that we have built over the last seven years. I don’t want that to I don’t want that to be a problem. So straight up are players are legit or not, I no longer care. They’re damn good players. I have seen their game play but I don’t think it makes sense for the org to have to bear the brunt for all of that because we did nothing. I’m not here to defend or stand by or explain to anyone what happened. The players will come on stream and they will give the explanation. I am telling you from perspective. So we decided we are going to put a pause on our entire BGMI operations and re-evaluate everything that we’re doing.

He continued,” We take a hard reset on our BGMI division We want to fix all of this. We want to ensure that we have full control.things don’t happen in the future. A big mistake that we made was not having full control.”

Following their departure, Sportskeeda reached out to Mayavi. Mayavi gave his take on GE leaving BGMI. He said, ” It’s impossible to defend being a part of Global Esports, GE doesn’t want to continue, but that doesn’t mean they are hackers or scammers. The narrative set will be answered, but yeah, with a brand tag, it’s not doable.” Mayavi continued,” The reason GE doesn’t want to continue is simple, the brand is getting negative PR.”

Many fans are alleging this move was damage control for what Global Esports was doing in the background. The BGMI community can expect a more in-depth explanation from GE about their exit. One of the main criticisms has been that they have been quite vague while addressing these issues. Now might be the time the community gets answers to their unanswered answers from the players who faced these allegations.
