How to achieve prestige ranks in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2? Ranking system explained

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released in late October 2022. Like any other title, Activision added a ranking system to this title as well. It corresponds to your level of multiple tiers. For a newer player, understanding this ranking system can be complicated. MW2 rewards players with different perks and gadgets as they level up.

The commencement of Season 1 on 17 November brought some new changes to the ranking system. The creators are now introducing Prestige ranks, which carry over to the following season, rather than having your ranks reset after the season. This is a fantastic quality of life change. It allows you to catch up on unlocking cosmetic features and eliminates the need to continually grind at the beginning of each season.

Players can advance through a total of 55 Military Ranks (MR), with the 55th MR serving as the level cap. Fans can push through all the tiers and unlock the entire set of equipment that MW2 has locked behind the tiers by adopting a full grind-set mentality. In multiplayer games, players who have more features unlocked have greater advantage, and Infinity Ward rewards devoted players in this way. Having those killstreak perks, field upgrades, and lethal equipment makes a significant impact even though it might not seem fair.

Now after season 1, when you level up past rank 55, you will enter the prestige rank 1. You will receive an Emblem, additional rewards, and a series of challenges that you can complete to unlock a special calling card. There are a total of 5 Prestige ranks in Modern Warfare 2. You’ll climb one prestige rank for every 50 levels you reach. It takes a lot of effort to advance to the Prestige ranks in Modern Warfare 2.

Here are the prestige ranks and their corresponding level requirement:

  • Prestige 1Unlocked at Rank 56
  • Prestige 2: Unlocked at Rank 100
  • Prestige 3: Unlocked at Rank 150
  • Prestige 4: Unlocked at Rank 200
  • Prestige 5: Unlocked at Rank 250

You will be able to continue moving through the prestige ranks from wherever you left off at the end of Season One. For instance, in Vanguard, this would completely reset between seasons, making it impossible to carry over any progress you had made. That is changing thanks to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Prestige system.

You can do these things to level up your Military Rank 55 so that you can reach prestige ranks quickly:

  • Participating in multiplayer matches is a great way to earn XP. You can frag out multiple kills and call killstreaks to earn more XP.
  • Completing Daily Challenges in multiplayer and spec ops gives a good amount of XP. Players should always complete all three daily challenges. After completing all 3, you’ll get a bonus challenge which will give you 3x XP.
  • You can also earn XP by completing career milestone challenges in Modern Warfare 2.
