The esports scene has gained massive traction all around the globe over the past few years. One such famous esports player is Valorant’s Pro Team member, TenZ. And the revelation that this world-famous player is colorblind shocks fans.
Tyson “TenZ” Ngo is a Canadian professional Valorant player who currently plays for Sentinels. He is known for playing Jett and fragging out opponents with wild Operator flicks. TenZ previously played for Cloud9’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team before transitioning to Valorant in September 2020. Is TenZ colorblind & what are the fans’ reactions to this
Recently, Sentinel’s official YouTube handle posted a video detailing how TenZ is colorblind and how his condition functions. Furthermore, the video explained that the player has Protanomaly, which is a colorblindness condition where people are not able to observe the color shades of Pink & Green. TenZ mentioned one of his childhood incidents when he found out that he had color blindness.
Tenz narrated his story about how, one time during his childhood, he was out with his mother to buy pencil boxes. While going through the multiple selections, he picked up one and said to his mother, “Mom, I want this Blue one!” However, his mother told TenZ that the pencil box was, in fact, hot pink in color. He has also taken a chroma Colorblindness test a while back on stream and couldn’t identify numbers that were in shades of pink or green. Such a famous professional esports player playing a color-vibrant game like Valorant on professional stages and being colorblind shocks fans.
Fans’ reactions to this and Sentinel making an informative video are quite varied.
This is an issue for such an up-and-coming player. Valorant does have an accessibility feature for agent outlines. However, there is no setting to change the ability tints that distinguish between enemy ability and team ability. Valorant needs to add such a feature so everyone who struggles with colors can play the game effectively. Knowing TenZ’s incapability is seeing some shades of color is a shock to the community, although fans are praising the player as one of the best valiant players still out there.
