“I’m human,” KSI publicly apologises after receiving immense backlash on his recent Sidemen video
The YouTuber took to Twitter to apologize for using a racial slur.
Popular YouTuber KSI recently found himself at the center of a controversy. This came after he used a racial slur during a video based on the U.K. game show “Countdown.” In the video, which was posted on Sunday, KSI and the Sidemen appeared in a skit. In the skit, they played a version of the game where contestants have 30 seconds to form the longest single word they can using nine letter tiles, one containing vowels and the other consonants.
During the game, KSI formed the word “P**i.” P**i is a derogatory term used to describe people of South Asian origin in the U.K. The offensive word was bleeped out in the video, but it was clear what he had said. KSI then said, “I don’t mean this maliciously, but the word’s P**i.” The clip showed his fellow Sidemen laughing, apparently amused by the slur.
The video quickly drew widespread outrage on social media. Many people called KSI and the Sidemen out for using such an offensive word. Several leading arts practitioners from the South Asian community also spoke out against KSI’s actions. They condemned the use of racial slurs and calling for more awareness and education around these issues.
While initially there was no response from the Sidemen, KSI soon stepped up and apologized for his actions in a Twitter post.

KSI apologizes for using racial slur
In response to the backlash, KSI issued an apology on social media.“I wanna apologize for saying a racial slur in a recent Sidemen video. There’s no excuse, no matter the circumstances, I shouldn’t have said it and I’m sorry.” He stated that he was sorry for his actions. “I’ve always said to my audience that they shouldn’t worship me or put me on a pedestal because I’m human. Im not perfect, I’m gonna mess up in life, and lately I’ve been messing up a lot.” He explained that he is human and like other humans, he’s likely to make mistakes.
He recognized the harm and hurt that his words had caused. He also announced that he would be taking a break from social media to reflect on his behavior and to learn more about the impact of racism and discrimination.
Various famous personalities and fans of KSI reacted to him apologising. Some expressed compassion and accepted KSI’s apology. However, others still criticized him for using a derogatory term.
KSI has not responded to the criticism yet, but fans can only hope that he takes the time off to truly reflect and rectify his actions. However, fans also applaud his acknowledgment of his error.
