NRG vs BLG Valorant Champions 2023: OpTic core once again crumbles against Chinese dark horses in the decider match

The group stages of Valorant Champions 2023 have come to an end. 8 teams have been sent, while the other 8 have persevered. With intense games, major upsets, and loads of drama, it has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. On the last day of lower-bracket qualifiers, the Chinese teams fought for survival, with Edward Gaming taking on the Giants and Bilibili Gaming taking on NRG.

EDG was already considered the favorites for their match and rightfully so, as they easily defeated Giants 2-0 without any major hiccups. The major upset for the day came from fellow Chinese team BLG, as they beat American veterans NRG. On the much-awaited rematch, Bilibili gaming came with guns blazing clean, sweeping NRG 2-0 again.

Previously, on their international debut Bilibili Gaming was deemed “Lucky” in their victory against NRG. Bank and co. proved their mettle in the anticipated rematch, emerging victorious again in a convincing fashion. The first map was Bind picked by NRG, where they used a double controller with Ardiis on Chamber. They had a decent start, leading 7-5 in the first half. Further, in the next half, they won the pistol and anti-eco, increasing their lead even more.

But their luck ran out at that instant as BLG made a great comeback closing the map 13-10. BLG’s Yosemite went into god mode dropping an ACS of 305 with an average rating of 1.53. Ardis could not find much leeway with the chamber, ending the map bottom fragging.

The second map was Ascent which was NRG’s perma-ban throughout the season but was left open because NRG banned Split, a very strong map for BLG. The map turned out to be a one-sided affair for BLG as they kept pushing through smokes and getting important kills to finish the half at 8-4. The second half was not any better for NRG, getting a single round as the map closed at a 13-5 scoreline.

BLG’s WHzy went on a killing spree dropping 21 kills with an ACS of 327. Knight also played an incredible game, winning crucial fights and getting multi-kills. Overall on NRG’s side, nothing worked for them. s0m who has been the most consistent player for NRG had an off day. In addition, after losing the first map, the trauma of their previous fated meet-up crept up upon the NRG player as they went on a tilt. They lost the game when they lost the first map.

Bilibili Gaming will now face another top contender Paper Rex. Despite whatever the result may be, BLG will be happy with their debut run at the international stages. The graph only goes upward from here. As for NRG, they have a lot to think about. They have always had a chip on their shoulder, being the team that always makes the playoffs. But now they are faced with adversity as they end their year at an all-time low. The fans of the squad will be looking forward to their comeback next year.
