Redfall to launch with 30 FPS cap on Xbox Series X and S
The vampire hunting shooter is set to launch with a quality mode on Xbox consoles.
Redfall is an upcoming first-person shooter game developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. The developers have set the game to release on May 12, 2023, on Windows PC and Xbox Series X/S. It is also included in Microsoft’s Game Pass subscription service. This enables subscribers to play the game from its launch day without additional purchase.
The game is set in the fictional town of Redfall, Massachusetts. Redfall has been overrun by a horde of bloodthirsty vampires. Players take on the role of a squad of four heroes. As they explore the town and battle the vampires, each hero utilises unique abilities. One of the game’s main objectives is to unravel the mystery behind the vampire infestation.
A significant detail revealed about the game is its frame rate. The game’s official Twitter account has announced that Arkane Studios will launch Redfall on Xbox consoles with a frame rate of 30 fps. The developers will add the ability to play the game at 60 fps in performance mode at a later date. This announcement has received negative feedback from fans on social media. Players have called for a delay or a 1080p/60 FPS option on Xbox platforms.

Redfall’s quality mode on Xbox consoles
Arkane Studios has confirmed that the Xbox launch will be quality mode only. This means that players will get a 30 FPS frame rate at 4K resolution on Xbox Series X and 30 fps at 1440p resolution on Xbox Series S. However, the Windows PC version of the game will not face any performance constraints. Players can achieve a 60 fps frame rate or beyond with more powerful hardware.
The developers may have made the decision to cap the frame rate on Xbox consoles to ensure a consistent performance across all Xbox devices. Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S have different hardware specifications, and capping the frame rate at 30 FPS may have been a way to ensure a consistent experience for players on both consoles.
While the decision to cap the frame rate on Xbox has received criticism, it is essential to keep in mind that game development can be quite a complex process. Game developers have to balance various factors, such as performance, graphics, and gameplay, while creating a game that is enjoyable and engaging for players.
