The year 2023 has been a golden year for games so far. Popular studios have released many massive AAA games this year, with a few being Game of the Year-worthy games. Games like Final Fantasy XVI and Legend of Zelda were a hit in the gaming community. However, this year has bee a great one for Indie games, too. Streamers loved the game Only Up, and the hype is unreal. But the creator behind the game has revealed that the game has been removed from Steam as they have been suffering from stress due to the game for a long time now!

SCKR Games developed and released Only Up, a thrilling adventure simulation game. On May 24, 2023, the creators of this independent game formally released it, offering gamers a relaxed gaming experience. Contrary to many other game genres, Only Up, a simulation game, frequently lacks rigid objectives or predetermined aims. As a result, characters or settings are subject to the players’ free will. Streamers quite well like this game.

The gaming community and the streamers’ community both loved Only Up from its inception. Furthermore, the game saw a huge shot in popularity after it’s launch despite being an Indie game. However, that’s where the drawbacks of being an Indie game come into the picture. Constant updates and new content being added to the game is the norm for any game to thrive in the long run. However, small Indie studios can’t focus that high of a workforce on such things. And when done so, it can cause a lot of stress.

Furthermore, due to the stress, the creator of the game has removed it from Steam. The Steam official page for the game now reads Only Up as “Not Available.” The creator said,

““I’m a solo developer and this game is my first experience in Gamedev, a game I did for creativity, to test myself, and where I made a lot of mistakes. The game has kept me under a lot of stress all these months. Now I want to put the game behind me. And yes. The game won’t be available in the Steam store soon, that’s what I decided myself.  “What I need now is peace of mind and healing. I plan to take a pause, and continue my education in game design and further with new experience and knowledge to direct my energies to my next game with the working title “Kith” – it will be a new experience and a new concept with realism, a completely different genre and setting, and the emphasis is on cinematography. This time I hope the project will be created by a small team. This is a challenging project on which I want to significantly improve my skills in game design. Thank you for your understanding.”

Although the game has now been removed from Steam, another famous counterpart of the game, Getting Over It is still available. Released years before Only Up, Getting Over It is still a fairly popular game in the community. However, it’s a sad day for the community as the game has shut down before even having a console port available on PlayStation & Xbox. As of right now, there’s no news of the game coming back anytime soon!
