Dr Disrespect accuses Activision of misleading the public about the Ricochet Anti-Cheat in Warzone

Dr Disrespect, a YouTube streamer, accuses Activision of misrepresenting Ricochet, the new Call of Duty: Warzone anti-cheat mechanism. Since its premiere in March 2020, Activision’s online multiplayer game Call of Duty: Warzone has had a difficult time.

The game has been plagued by a slew of flaws, many of which severely limits a player’s enjoyment, as well as an influx of cheats who have damaged the experience for more honest players. The problem has gotten so bad that many people, including well-known content makers like Nickmercs and FaZe Kalei, have temporarily ceased playing the game or recommended that others move to Apex Legends instead.

Warzone isn’t the first Call of Duty game to have a seemingly endless stream of cheats, and Activision hasn’t just stood by and watched it happen. The publisher was successful in shutting down several cheat resellers’ websites and preventing certain creators from publishing their cheats at all.

Activision filed a lawsuit against Warzone cheat provider EngineOwning, seeking $2,500 for each infraction, even after the anti-cheat technology Ricochet was introduced into Warzone and Vanguard at the start of December.

Unfortunately, anecdotal evidence suggests that Ricochet anti-cheat was poor in combating hackers and cheat tools, leading popular YouTube personality Dr Disrespect to accuse Activision of misleading advertising. During a webcast of Call of Duty: Warzone, another player took out the Doc with seemingly minimal effort.

“The guy’s hacking, right?” the content creator exclaimed after studying the death cam footage. “100%?” you could ask. “So they did lie to us about Ricochet,” he said after reading the conversation for a bit. Isn’t that deceptive advertising?”

Ricochet is a multi-faceted anti-cheat technology that works in a variety of ways to catch cheaters. The software keeps an eye on server-side statistics for cheating, tracks and reports third-party software that interacts with Warzone, and improves investigation processes.

Ricochet according to Activision, has already proven to be incredibly effective, with 48,000 Warzone and Vanguard cheats being banned in a single day as a result of the new system. However, similar figures have been claimed in the past with other games, and players only witnessed a brief improvement before the anti-cheat methods were bypassed.
