As a platform, Twitch is known to evolve heavily as the years pass. However, this is probably not what the people at the streaming site’s headquarters expected. Female internet influencers using their sexuality to gain clout and attention have existed since the popularization of streaming and video sites.

Platforms like YouTube and Twitch have tried to crack down on this phenomenon. However, streamers have found many ways to get past these guidelines and play fast & loose with the terms of service. Twitch streamers discover certain strategies for optimizing their channels and maximising monetization. These strategies are known as “meta.”

The most famous example of this is the hot tub meta in 2021. Twitch guidelines prohibit streamers from going live in bikinis or revealing clothes. However, there is an exception to this rule. They can do so if the stream is in a swimming pool, hot tub or a similar environment. Many female streamers went live in the “Just Chatting” section with hot tubs installed inside their rooms.

Twitch eventually cracked down on this and removed streams involving such devious practices. However, a new meta, called the Topless meta, seems to be taking over the platform now. Many platform users are outraged at how many streamers get past Twitch guidelines with seemingly no punishment.

Topless Meta is taking over Twitch and outraging fans

This new Topless meta on Twitch was started by an OnlyFans model known as Morgpie. The red-headed streamer went live on the platform not wearing any clothes above her waist. However, no nudity was shown throughout the duration of the stream, which seemingly allowed her to get away with this act.

The Twitch guidelines explicitly state that streamers are not allowed to show “breasts with exposed nipples.” Considering that this role was not broken, it allowed her to continue streaming without any penalties. Other streamers soon followed suit, and Twitch’s “Just Chatting” section seems to have been repopulated with female streamers following such practices.

This has caused an uproar within the Internet community. Fans are outraged by women being able to use their sexuality to gain popularity on the platform. Meanwhile, other streamers working dedicatedly towards growing their channels are nowhere near them in numbers. Additionally, many streamers get banned on the platform for senseless reasons.

Popular streamer IShowSpeed parodied the topless meta by performing a windmill before a topless streamer. It is safe to assume that Twitch will take steps to prevent this in the future. Till then, many streamers have exploited this method to get donations and subscriptions on their OnlyFans accounts.

The Twitch community is bashing this meta left and right. They know this is even more ridiculous than the ASMR and Hot Tub streaming meta. Since there is no actual nudity in the stream and is under the Just Chatting category, it technically doesn’t harm any guidelines but is still harmful to the young audience on the platform. Fans have to wait and see if Twitch takes action against such streams.
