Twitch raises its ad-free service, Twitch Turbo subscription by 30%
Fans are criticizing this price hike by Twitch
Before the tech giant Amazon acquired Twitch, the company rolled out a new service called Twitch Turbo. It had everything a streamer or viewer would want. seamless and ad-free content. This led to the platform making money off Twitch Turbo like a milking cash cow. Later, Twitch pushed Steamers to run more ads to encourage users to buy Twitch Turbo, and adding to the already hot business in light of recent events, this is not faring well.
When Twitch first made its way as a Streaming platform it gained instant popularity and love from across the globe. This was the start of the first full-fledged streaming platform that would enable traffic of thousands letting content creators find a place to make good money and everyone was satisfied until they were not. As the monopoly of Twitch went on to grasp a larger pool of consumers, the decision wasn’t always in the favor of the actual streamers and viewers. To top it off Twitch has a new buff in prices for Twitch Turbo. Twitch is hiking its ad-free service subscription by 30% in the coming days.
Twitch hikes subscription cost for Twitch Turbo
Previously, users were paying $8.99 in the local currency, but now it has gone up a significant 30% and will cost $11.99. While the great white north, it will cost CAD 13.999 monthly. Twitch has released its price catalog on its support page which you can check out.
Since the new price hike has no features or services added either this is attracting negative attention to the decisions Twitch has made. The hike in prices is a lot more in other countries adding to the cost of international taxes and fees.
On the 22nd of May, Twitch said that they are launching the new, ad-free Channel Switcher to a certain number of users, while everyone else will have to either see pre-roll advertisements when they join a broadcast or purchase the new Twitch Turbo price. This seems like a move that won’t end well with already existing new streaming contender Kick rising in popularity with streamers like Adin Ross and Sen SicK moving to this platform.
