Hogwarts Legacy has not only been the best video game release of 2023 so far but also the most controversial one. However, the dispute has escalated to a level where streamers are getting harassed for playing the game.

Recently, Twitch VTuber Silverdale faced a similar incident. She was crying profusely while informing that she has received death threats when she decided to play the Harry Potter game. “People doxing my friends. And, like, so much horrible, vile things,” she added that all of this is happening because she streamed a video game.

The VTuber continued to suggest her community that hate doesn’t help anyone. Explaining further, Silverdale said that she is sick of seeing the negativity everywhere. “It’s literally like they gang up on so many different tweets about Valentine’s Day or art or automated posts,” this led her to block several people on social media.

The harassment seems to have increased after rumor spread that she has banned the word ‘trans’ from her chat. Silverdale addressed this issue on her Discord community, claiming that the word is banned by Twitch auto mod. The VTuber added that she feels hurt to see people getting such ideas regarding her, adding that she has always been supportive of the LGBTQ+ community.

Hogwarts Legacy swiftly became the number 1 video game streamed on Twitch within a few days of its launch. The action-adventure RPG takes players to the Harry Potter world and allow them to create their own wands, etc.

The game has been quite nostalgic to some Potterheads but the other section seems to avoid it. This is solely due to the boycott performed by trans community of social media who are going to the point of harassing streamers.

Even before the game was launched, a Twitch streamer’s girlfriend was left in tears as she was threatened for playing the game. Following this incident, streamers such as HasanAbi, Valkyrae, Sykkuno and others decided not to get involved into the controversy.

On the other hand, streamers like xQc and Asmongold have been quite vocal against the harassment faced by some players. They remarked that playing the game doesn’t necessarily make one a hater of trans-community.

Community reactions

Silverdale’s clip about sharing her ordeal has received a huge traction on Reddit. Most of the users noted that it is disappointing to see streamers getting harassed for playing a video game. Here are some reactions that followed-

For those out of the loop, people are boycotting Hogwarts Legacy for its connection with J.K. Rowling. The author of the iconic franchise has been the target of trans-communities ever since her anti-trans comments sparked a debate.
