The VCT 2023 season has been a pandora’s box of events. There were a lot of unexpected events that just had fans on the edge of their seats. This VCT season saw a lot of drama, clutches, players popping off, and a lot of good & bad stuff. However, with the start of the Valorant Champions 2023, teams are diving into wild battles of wits and skills. Something happened during the NRG vs. BLG match at the Valorant Champions 2023 match.
This VCT season has seen a lot of promising teams fall off quite badly and not play as per expectations. Teams like Sentinels and Cloud9, which were fated to be strong contenders, didn’t qualify for any major events. Furthermore, teams like Evil Geniuses and Edward Gaming which didn’t have much experience dominated the VCT 2023. Although there were many failed moments, every team performed their best, despite some lacking in effort.
However, the first match for the strong contenders, NRG, has been a huge disaster. The team not only lost to a new entry Chinese team of VCT 2023, but the Chinese team dominated the match. This loss came as a surprise to both the team and the fans.

The three selected maps during NRG vs BLG were Lotus, Split & Pearl. NRG was strapped in to go strong into the game, considering it was Bilibili Gaming’s debut match on the international stage. However, it was exactly this thought that resulted in the miserable loss for NRG. NRG’s start was spectacular on Lotus, winning 5 rounds consecutively right from the start. Later, they ended the first half with a score of 7-5. However, the second half was where things went down south.
In the second half of the first map, Lotus was a fumble for NRG. NRG gave Bilibili Gaming 7 rounds during the second half on the attacker’s side and especially Bilibili’s main duelist player, Whzy, capitalized on this fumble with his Raze judge-satchel combo! The game went into overtime, with Bilibili Gaming winning both OT rounds. The game thus moved over to the second map, Split.
Fans knew NRG’s hold on Split was good, and this was a map of their choice; however, they were soon proved wrong. NRG’s overall performance on this map was so poor that the game closed with a score of 13-8, with Bilibili Gaming claiming the victory right under the nose of NRG. BLG’s Whzy’s performance was the highlight of this game, with his immaculate tactics and skills.
NRG took it to Twitter and posted that lower brackets aren’t new to them, and they’ll win the next match. Furthermore, if NRG wants to stay in the tournament and contest for the trophy, they need to win their next match. Furthermore, Bilibili Gaming’s performance in their first international match was exemplary, considering they just beat a team full of Champions-level contenders.
