God of War was considered a near-perfect game at its release. The game delivered in every aspect – the action gameplay, the incredible soundtrack, and the stunning visuals. Additionally, the game is a masterclass in storytelling. The game also had no loading screens or wait times. While it was not a new concept then, it was still revolutionary.
Hence, the sequel, God of War Ragnarök, had a lot of hype and expectation. To nobody’s surprise, Santa Monica Studios met all these expectations and then some. The game is equally as good, if not better, than the original.
Recently, Sony has started putting its PlayStation exclusives on Steam. Horizon: Zero Dawn, ported by Virtuous Studios, was the first such game to be released for PC in 2020. Other games, such as The Last of Us, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, and God of War, were quick to follow. Since then, fans have wondered when they can see the sequel to God of War on their PC.
God of War Ragnarök PC Release Date
There is some circumstantial evidence supporting the case of God of War Ragnarök coming to PC. Jetpack Interactive partnered with Sony to port God of War to PC. Their LinkedIn page still mentions that they are working with Sony Santa Monica on the God of War franchise. While this could be about continuing work for the 2018 game, a long-term partnership has formed between the two studios.
Furthermore, the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, mentioned in a May 2023 interview that fans favorably accept PlayStation 5 exclusives being released for the PC two to three years after the initial launch. While the original God of War took a bit longer, Sony had not started releasing their exclusives for PC at the time.
Considering that God of War Ragnarök was released for the PS5 in November 2022, this would put the time frame between 2024 and 2025. Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios, also mentioned that the timeline between the PlayStation launch and PC launch could be reduced to a year. This would mean that a 2024 launch is most likely for God of War Ragnarök.
