Star Wars video games have always been an integral part of the franchise and have been around almost as long as the Star Wars movies. The SW franchise has been around for a decade and has amassed a massive fanbase for both its movies and games alike.

Having a massive fanbase, there are many Star Wars stories that have been told other than the main storyline, and more than 100 games that have been inspired by them. Across dozens of gaming genres, including racing games, shooters, flight simulators, and role-playing games, the franchise has grown gigantic. Although there is an enormous amount of Star Wars games, only a handful of them remain fan favorites and must-try for all Star Wars fanatics.

10. Star Wars: Squadrons

Star Wars: Squadrons is a first-person perspective space flight combat simulator developed by Motive Studio and published by Electronic Arts. The game was officially released on 2nd October 2020. It offers players an opportunity to experience the battle of starships set in the Star Wars universe. Players can pick starships from either the Galactic Empire or the Imperial Navy and duke it out in outer space. Motive Studios has done a wonderful job to give players the amazing experience of outer space battle that every Star Wars fanatic dream of.

Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is a first- and third-person shooter video game with two different developers and publishers for different platforms. The game was developed by  Raven Software for Mac and Windows and by Vicarious Visions for Xbox and Game Cube. All versions of the game were published by  LucasArts except the Mac version that was published by Aspyr.

Jedi Outcast allowed the player to use a diverse number of weapons from the Star Wars franchise including Force powers. The story of the game follows the protagonist Kyle Katran a Jedi who has forsaken the Force on his adventures. Having forsaken the Force, Kyle starts out with no Force powers but later gains both the Light side and Dark side due to his having joined the Dark side before. It is still regarded as the revolutionary for lightsaber combat in the Star Wars video game franchise.

8. Star Wars: The Old Republic

Star Wars: The Old Republic is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. It was officially released on 20th December 2011 giving fans one of the best role-playing games set in the Star Wars Universe. It offers players an opportunity to play as Jedi, Sith, or one of many other iconic Star Wars roles to create their own story-driven saga. The game works on a monthly subscription basis with players having to pay a certain amount every month to play . The title had one million subscribers within three days of its launch and is still one of the fan favorites.

7. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is an action-adventure game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. It was released on November 15th, 2019 with its story taking place five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III- Revenge of the Sith. The story follows the journey of Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis in his struggles to fight against the Galactic Empire. The game sold more than 10 million copies by 2020 and was even nominated as “Game of the Year” at the Game Awards 2020.

6. Star Wars: Republic Commando

Star Wars: Republic Commando is a first-person shooter video game that was developed and published by LucasArts. The game was officially released in March 2005 and is set in the Star Wars expanded universe. The story is based on the Delta Squad of the Galactic Republic’s Clone Army consisting of four enhanced clone troopers. Players are put in control of the squad’s leader RC-1138 (“Boss”) and control other troopers throughout the game. The game received mediocre reviews during launch but has grown to be one of the best Star Wars video games ever.

Star Wars Dark Forces is a first-person shooter video game that was developed and published by LucasArts. Dark Forces were officially released in 1995. It is one of the first FPS games in the Star Wars franchise. It functioned using the Jedi game engine, which was specifically developed for the game. The game puts players in control of the protagonist Kyle Katarn who is hired by the Rebel Forces to recover the plans for the Death Star, the Galactic Empire’s space station. The game sold over one million units by 1999 and paved the way for other Star Wars FPS games.

4. Star Wars Battlefront II

Star Wars Battlefront II is an action shooter video game that was developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts. It was officially released on 17th November as the sequel to Star Wars Battlefront. The game is set in the universe created by George Lucas, where players can either choose to have ground battles as troopers or space battles as starship pilots. The single-player mode follows the story of Iden Versio as she tries to infiltrate the Galactic Empire. Most of the story is set during the final year of the Galactic Civil War where the Sith face eventual defeat. It is one of the better Star Wars video games of the decade that offer players a good gameplay experience.

3. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a Lego-themed action-adventure game that was developed by Traveller’s Tales and published by Warner Bros. The game was released on 5th April 2022 and was very well received by the fans. Although the game does not feature character customization like other Lego games, it offers more than 300 playable characters. Players can choose to start from 3 different storylines to complete the nine storylines present in the game. This was one of the best Lego games ever made and is a must-try for all Star Wars fanatics.

2. Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a role-playing game that was developed by BioWare and published by LucasArts. It was released in July 2003 as the first installment of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series. Although the first in the series, it was considered to be the best. The story follows the protagonist Raven as he struggles to fight the armada spread by Darth Malak. The game is set 4000 years prior to the Star Wars movies.

The highly anticipated game was released on 28th April 2023 as the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The story picks up 5 years from the events of Fallen Order still following the adventures of Cal and BD-1 as they struggle to fight the Galactic Empire. The latest installment of the Jedi series is one the best Star Wars games to be made. Although the game has some bugs, the storyline and gameplay both are impeccable.
