No one knows who the Legendary Ghost of Kyiv is
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has been devastating for the country and they are desperately in need of a hero. The Ghost of Kyiv’ is one legend that is born during times of war by people desperately trying to find some hope in these desperate times. Many people found hope in this one individual that gave rise to the spirit of resistance among the Ukrainians, but sadly this hero of theirs might not be real as people later found out.

Who is the Ghost of Kyiv?
In the desperate situation that Ukraine finds itself in, legends arose of a pilot that shot down 6 Russian Fighters during an intense dogfight. This pilot was dubbed as ‘The Ghost of Kyiv’ and gave hope to many fighting on the Ukrainian side of the conflict. There was also footage of his feat circulating all over the internet of the marvellous feats that the said pilot had performed. This footage was filmed by someone on the ground who was a witness to the dangerous dogfighting overhead.
Many people thought that this was proof that the ghost was real, but it turns out that the truth is indeed stranger than fiction as events took an interesting turn. As many fact-checking media outlets dug deeper they started to find inconsistencies within the video itself which lead them to its actual source.

Was the footage of the Ghost of Kyiv real?
The footage above has been circulating on the internet as proof of the Ghost Of Kyiv’s existence. Sadly this video has been used out of context as the YouTube user who uploaded it has mentioned in their description that this video was meant to be a tribute to the Ghost of Kyiv and was simulated using the game DCS world.
DCS World is a free to play flight simulation game which is developed by Eagle Dynamics. The game is known for its very realistic simulation of modern-day air combat and it can be clearly seen by how everyone was fooled. It is an extremely popular game among flight simulator enthusiasts. This is because of its free to play nature compared to its two other competitors, those being the IL-2 Sturmovik series and the Ace Combat series. Both of their high costs combined with the need for joysticks, rudder pedals and throttles makes it ease to understand why people prefer DCS world.
Ironically the game used for the footage was developed by a company that is based in Moscow. While the Ukrainians desperately search for some sign of hope, it seems that the Ghost of Kyiv is still just a legend who eludes everyone due to a lack of proof.
