Since the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced that Iga Swiatek failed a doping test back in August, the tennis community has turned upside down. With a plethora of opinions about the issue, Nick Kyrgios’ message on social media seems to resonate with many, including Eugenie Bouchard, who took a dig at the WTA No. 2.
On Thursday (November 28), the ITIA announced that Swiatek tested positive for a banned substance trimetazidine (TMZ), a medication used to treat heart-related conditions. The Polish star was then handed a one-month provisional suspension as a result of that. The ITIA revealed that it accepted Swiatek’s defense that the positive test was caused by contamination of the regulated non-prescription medication melatonin, which she took for jet lag and sleep.
However, several players, including Taylor Fritz and Denis Shapovalov, have voiced disapproval of the tennis body’s partiality in doping cases. Nick Kyrgios disagrees with Swiatek’s excuse for the contamination. The Aussie added that top sports professionals could easily avoid accountability if they remain naive about dealing with them.

This isn’t the first time that Bouchard has responded to a doping controversy. In 2023, a few weeks after Simona Halep was handed a four-year ban, she suggested that she had information about what truly transpired but would not make it public.
Tennis legend says Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner are setting bad examples to youngsters
This year, Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek’s doping saga has been a major blow to International tennis’ credibility. For a sport already attracting thousands of fans and sponsors, top players are not supposed to be testing positive for banned substances. In August, the ITIA revealed that Sinner tested twice positive for clostebol and wasn’t suspended.
Recently, Swiatek tested positive for Trimetazidine and was only handed a one-month suspension. ATP legend, Kafelnikov Yevgeny expressed on social media that Swiatek and Sinner are laying bad examples for growing youngsters who are looking up to them.
And the sad part to all of this is that young and upcoming players(12-16 years old) look at they idols and think maybe it’s normal to use steroids in the future and get away with this?♂️! Current players setting bad examples for young generations

Sinner’s doping case has already been appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The hearing is slated to begin in February 2025, which will surely determine the World No. 1 season.
