European Championships 2021: Indian shooters continue high-scoring run

After posting good scores in the individual airgun events at the ongoing European Championships 2021, Indian shooters continued their chart-topping run in the Mixed Team qualifications.

The ever-consistent pairing of Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker finished 2nd in the first qualification stage (Q1) with an overall score of 580. Saurabh scored 294 while Manu shot 286. Only the Russian team with a score of 583 was ahead of India. India and Russia were the only two teams to post a 580+ score.

The second Indian team (Abhishek Verma and Yashaswini Singh Deswal) finished 9th with 575. Iran was the second-highest among Asian teams, finishing 6th with 576.

India were not eligible to compete in Q2 or medal rounds. Gold was won by Russia (Artem Chernousov and Vitalina Batarashkina) who beat Serbia (Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec) 17-13. Bronze was won by Portugal (Joao Costa and Joana Castelao) who beat Austria 16-14.

A similar story followed in 10m AR. India’s Elavenil Valraivan (315.8) and Divyansh Singh Panwar (314.8) shot a combined total of 630.6 in Q1, only behind Norway with 632.

India 2 (Anjum Moudgil and Deepak Kumar) finished a lowly 38th with 622.2. Iran, the second-best Asian team shot 624.1 for a 28th place finish.

France (Oceanne Marianne Muller and Brian Baudoin) beat Russia 1 (Anastasiia Galashina and Vladimir Maslennikov) 16-4. Russia 2 (Yulia Karimova and Sergey Kamenskiy) won bronze after beating Israel 16-6.
