The recent NBA rookie contract extensions in the league are currently the hottest topic amongst the NBA community around the world. Recently, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Evan Mobley agreed on a five-year, $224 million maximum rookie contract extension that could become worth as much as $269 million as per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
This particular deal shocked the NBA fans, especially considering the numbers included in the deal for Mobley, who has been quite average for the Cavs. Some fans also jokingly claimed that if Mobley is getting a deal for around $224 million, then the OKC Thunder rookies Chet Holmgren and Shai-Gilgeous Alexander might get deals worth around a “Billion.”
On the contrary, as per Wojnarowski in 12 NBA postseason games, Mobley has averaged 16 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks. In 2023, Mobley, 23, finished third in the voting for Defensive Player of the Year and made the first-team All-Defense. It will be intriguing to watch how Mobley and other NBA rookies live up to the expectations and their staggering deals in the NBA.
