Ex-NBA star playing in Israel undergoes 11 drug tests after Jerusalem game
NBA veteran Patrick Beverly revealed details of a recent incident that saw him undergo 11 drug tests in Israel.
Patrick Beverley opens up about drug tests
NBA veteran Patrick Beverly announced his surprising decision to join the Israeli Basketball League earlier this year. The 12-year NBA journeyman last played in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks last season before departing for Israel.
While Beverly has been positive about his move out of the States, his recent story about a drug test issue surely couldn’t be fun. On his podcast, Pat Bev revealed that following a win over the Jerusalem Basketball team in Jerusalem, he had to undergo 11 drug tests before being cleared.
Beverly revealed that officials stated that his urine samples had “too much water” in them the first ten times, probing an 11th drug test to prove his innocence.

Beverly said that the Yom Kippur fast, which he took part in, was the primary reason for his elevated water levels during the drug test. He continued his story in the podcast, remarking that he had to wait until almost 4 AM before he was cleared to go home from where he immediately had to leave to board a flight for his next game.
Nonetheless, Beverly and his team, the Hapoel Tel Aviv, are finally starting to string together some wins. The team lost their first two games of the season before embarking on their present four-game winning streak. Mr. 94 Feet has been more than impressive, leading the team in scoring with 14.6 points per game in the four Eurocup games the team has played.
Patrick Beverly recounts WILD 25-hour challenge
Patrick Beverly seems to be having fun playing overseas basketball in Israel, but the NBA veteran almost took on more than he could chew over the past week. After speaking to his teammates, Beverly decided to take on the Yom Kippur fast, which is a holy practice in Judaism. The fast required the 36-year-old to abstain from all food and drinks, barring water, for 25 hours.

After a rigorous and grueling period of fasting, Pat Bev finally broke his fast with some mangoes and ramen. It looks like Beverly is having fun overseas, and perhaps a great stint in the Israeli Basketball League may make some teams consider bringing the Veteran defensive stud back to the major league.
