Lewis Hamilton took the internet by storm after making his first visit to Maranello as a Ferrari driver. The seven-time world champion is determined to bring glory back to the Italian giant. However, the upcoming season won’t be the real measure for this partnership.

The 40-year-old has already made his on-track debut in Fiorano. Lewis Hamilton has familiarized himself with his new team, led by Team Principal Fred Vasseur. Moreover, the commercial benefits have reaped in with his first Instagram post generating upwards of $400,000.

All eyes of the Tifosi are on Hamilton’s first season at Ferrari, alongside Charles Leclerc. Though, even the Briton would be aware that his best chance to achieve an unprecedented eighth world title will not be this season.

2026 rule change to be Lewis Hamilton’s golden opportunity

Red Bull has dominated Formula 1 in the ground-effect era since 2022. Ferrari and McLaren did defeat the Austrian team in the standings last year. However, it remans clear cut that Milton Keynes has the upper hand when it comes to the current cars.

Moreover, Lewis Hamilton has had the worst time of his F1 career since 2022. The seven-time world champion has not felt comfortable with the ground-effect regulations. A switch to Ferrari might make things better for the Briton, but it does not guarantee a massive turnaround.

On the other hand, Formula 1 will go through a major overhaul in 2026 with new power units and new chassis. This will open the opportunity for Ferrari to gain an edge on its rivals while it will mark a new start for Lewis Hamilton as well. The 40-year-old can adapt himself with the new cars and solve his past issues.

Hamilton might feel much more comfortable with the 2026 cars. This could enable him to push to the limit, something he has failed to do in the past couple of seasons. Moreover, the Briton will be able to adjust to Ferrari’s work culture in 2025 to prepare for a title bid next season.

It seems that the Tifosi might need to keep realistic expectations for the upcoming season. Lewis Hamilton can certainly fight for race wins over the course of his debut Ferrari campaign. But a full title bid seems unlikely.
