Lewis Hamilton is arguably the biggest public figure in Formula 1. Hamilton has millions of fans worldwide who support the Mercedes driver through thick and thin. Lewis certainly deserves this massive fan following. Over the years, the 38-year-old has rewritten F1 history as he shattered dozens of records. Thus, it is no surprise that sponsors try to utilize Hamilton’s image to good use for marketing.
However, in 2022, Lewis Hamilton was involved in an amusing marketing event. Malaysian oil giant, Petronas has been Mercedes F1’s title sponsor ever since the team’s debut in 2010. Hence, the oil company has often made ads and campaigns around the Silver Arrows. One such incident took place in Malaysia last year when Hamilton was made to sit on a stool in a Petronas Petrol Station.
The stool on which Lewis Hamilton sat was preserved and later auctioned off. A lot of care was given to the stool, as the auction description mentioned that it had been wrapped to preserve the “freshness of butt-prints.” Interestingly, many placed their bids to acquire this stool which was eventually given to the highest bidder for £500. Opinions remain divided over this hilarious incident although some call this price a bargain.

Lewis Hamilton’s stool had gone viral in Malaysia
Malaysia used to be a stable part of the F1 calendar before being dropped out in 2018. Thus, the country continues to have a decent F1 fanbase. Certainly, this stool provided these passionate fans to possess unique memorabilia of one of the all-time greats. Additionally, the Petronas-Mercedes connection only sweetened the deal. Hence, it was no surprise that this rather rare Lewis Hamilton item was sold out in the blink of an eye.
Certainly, this event remains a special one in the eyes of fans and of course Lewis Hamilton. Although, over the years there have been other peculiar instances in the country. Such as Sebastian Vettel‘s collision with Lance Stroll on the cool-down lap in 2017. Unfortunately, there have been no hints about the Sepang International Circuit making a return to the sport, as F1 already has a packed calendar.
Thus, Lewis Hamilton could have never imagined that one day, people would bid for his buttprints. However, the world is a baffling place. Fans often get attached to celebrities to a great extent and seek to acquire anything related to them. Subsequently, this stool instance might not be surprising in the eyes of a few. Although, such sales might continue to happen in the future if there is a demand for such unique items.
