Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll acquired the Force India F1 team in 2018. Since the beginning, Stroll has had grand ambitions for his F1 team and renamed the team to Aston Martin. It seems that the Canadian billionaire is just one step away from solidifying the Silverstone-based squad as a top contender in F1.
Stroll has invested millions of dollars into the team over the years, including a brand new state-of-the-art facility near its old base in Silverstone. Moreover, the 64-year-old signed world champions Sebastian Vettel and then Fernando Alonso to partner his son Lance Stroll.
Perhaps the biggest move made by Lawrence Stroll so far is the Honda works deal done for 2026. The Japanese manufacturer will exclusively supply power units to Aston Martin from 2026, allowing a perfect synergy between the car and the engine. As such, Adrian Newey could be the last piece of the puzzle for Aston Martin’s F1 ambitions.
Adrian Newey would give a massive boost to Aston Martin’s efforts
Adrian Newey is arguably the best designer in the history of Formula 1. The Briton has won championships with Williams, McLaren and Red Bull. It is thus no surprise that Aston Martin have tried to lure Newey to Silverstone since he announced his departure from Milton Keynes recently.
The aero genius transformed Red Bull’s technical department and made it one of the most successful F1 teams. Despite taking a back seat from day-to-day operations, Adrian Newey’s guidance remained pivotal for Milton Keynes. If Aston Martin could get Newey’s services, the British team would get a massive boost in its development efforts, especially for 2026.
Aston Martin had previously hired personnel from Red Bull. This could provide Newey with a comfortable environment with a few familiar faces. More importantly, the aero genius would likely to get unlimited resources at his disposal courtesy of Lawrence Stroll. As the Canadian billionaire would leave no stone unturned to keep Adrian Newey happy.
As such, Adrian Newey’s arrival to Aston Martin would allow the British team to become a championship contender in F1. Newey would be able to design the car with a works Honda engine, similar to the arrangement at Red Bull. However, it remains to be seen if Lawrence Stroll succeeds in getting his hands on the aero genius.
