Aero genius Adrian Newey decided to leave Red Bull after the alleged recent tensions within the team. Newey spent around 18 years of life working for Red Bull, helping the team win six Constructors Championship and Max Verstappen his three F1 titles. But this success also had some setbacks in his career where he had to face eight years of victory drought. Newey particularly mentioned the 2021 season, where they almost clinched the title.
Adrian Newey mentioned that Sebastian Vettel won his first ever championship in 2010 with Red Bull. After that victory, the team had to continue putting in a lot of effort to stay successful. This was because the hybrid era began in Formula 1 which brought in new technologies. He mentioned Red Bull faced new challenges that season but managed to adapt with the new developments.
After 2010 we had to keep working, but we held on with the arrival of the hybrid era.Adrian Newey said on Talking Bulls Podcast
Newey also pointed out that the 2021 season was particularly notable where Max Verstappen won his first ever World championship. He reckoned that season will be remembered and talked about for many years because of its significance and the dramatic competition that took place. Even though Verstappen won in drivers, the Milton Keynes slipped the constructors out of hand. The 65-year-old mentioned, in his entire career in motorsports, 2021 was the toughest year he ever experienced. Even though their team secured the driver’s title, the struggles that season were the most difficult compared to any other time.
The 2021, I think that season will be talked about for many years to come , maybe even forever. For me, I think in my entire career in motorsport, it was the most difficult year of all.Adrian Newey added.
Adrian Newey asserts Ferrari’s strategy errors were key to Red Bull’s 2010 title win
Adrian Newey explained that joining Red Bull was a major risk in his career, but he felt it was a necessary move at that time. A year later, the team was still competing strongly and ended up in the final race in Abu Dhabi. In 2010, they won the World championship despite many challenges. This victory was largely due to Sebastian Vettel’s excellent driving during that crucial weekend. However, the main reason explained by Newey was Ferrari’s massive error in their strategy which gave a good advantage for Vettel to capitalize on position. Therefore, Newey’s decision to take that risk with Red Bull ultimately paid off with a hard-earned championship win.
I thought going to Red Bull was a big challenge , a big risk in my career, but a risk I felt I had to take at the time. A year later, we were still in contention for the final race in Abu Dhabi. In 2010, we won the World Championship against all odds thanks to Sebastian's great driving that weekend and Ferrari's mistake with the strategy.Adrian Newey stated
Certainly, Adrian Newey was anxious about moving to Red Bull, but the success in 2010 confirmed it was the right decision. However, Red Bull’s winning streak ended in 2014 when Lewis Hamilton claimed his second title.
