Max Verstappen‘s impressive 2024 triumph has enabled him to be compared to the greats in Formula 1. The Dutchman equaled Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel for championship wins in the sport. Hence, amidst the celebrations, Prost put forth a ‘love-hate’ relationship towards Verstappen’s personality in the sport.
Max Verstappen won his fourth consecutive title in the 2024 season and also broke multiple records in the process. Alain Prost claimed that the reigning world champion was in a class of his own following such massive achievements. Verstappen’s personality and character set him completely apart from his competitors on the grid.
What he has already achieved, Verstappen is clearly in a class of his own. He is not just any driver, with his personality, character and commitment.
Alain Prost told L’Equipe
Prost believed that one could love or hate Verstappen and it wouldn’t matter to him. The reason for this was that the 27-year-old treated everyone indifferently. Moreover, the Dutchman was ‘unique’ in his own way much like the rest of the championship winners in the past in Formula 1.
You can love him or hate him, but he certainly doesn’t leave you indifferent. He is unique, like many world champions.
Alain Prost added
The 27-year-old Max Verstappen ‘did not disappoint’ Alain Prost
Alain Prost wasn’t always fully supporting Max Verstappen amidst the latter’s championship ambitions. Prost had previously claimed that the Dutchman’s wins weren’t as impressive due to lack of competition. However, the 69-year-old took a U-turn on his claims and recalled his faith in the driver back in 2016. The Frenchman noted that Verstappen showcased a bright future in Formula 1 and did not disappoint the former’s faith.
I remember commentating for Canal+ in 2016 when he first won, promising him a bright future and a bright future. He has not disappointed me.

Red Bull still has the mountainous task of working towards a better start in the 2025 season, much different from this time around. The team has to work on all gears to ensure that such a woeful pace is not witnessed in the 2025 chassis. Hence, the final season of the ground-effect era will put forth some interesting situations for Milton Keynes.
