Alpine‘s 2024 F1 season seems to be in ruins. Its drivers have been found battling with each other more often than often and are barely able to manage its current eighth place in the constructor’s standings. Witnessing the slump from its glory days as Renault, the team has taken proactive measures to salvage the team. This has led the French manufacturer to appoint its former team principal, Flavio Briatore, as the Executive Advisor for its F1 division.
The French manufacturer revived its journey in F1 in the 2000s when it bought Benetton, which was headed by Flavio Briatore at the time. This led him to become the team principal at Renault and scouted young talents like Fernando Alonso in his reigns. However, the Crashgate scandal in 2008, led him to resign as the team principal in 2009 and put the final nail in his F1 coffin.
However, in a stark turn of events, after a dismal start to the 2024 season, Alpine announced that the Italian was appointed as the Executive Advisor.

This announcement made waves in the F1 sphere. Numerous experts were left on either side of the balance of whether this move would bring Alpine the much-needed success in F1. Despite their concerns, the Renault group CEO Luca de Meo, seems to have faith in the 74-year-old and made him return to Enstone.
What roles would Flavio Briatore fulfill at Alpine?
Despite his reunion with the Enstone-based team, Briatore has been appointed as an advisor. However, a return to lead the team seems a long way off, and he might have to make strong strides to make this dream a reality again.
The team revealed the roles and responsibilities that would be levied on Briatore’s shoulders.
Briatore will predominantly focus on top level areas of the team including: scouting top talents and providing insights on the driver market, challenging the existing project by assessing the current structure and advising on some strategic matters within the sport.Alpine said via a press release
The French manufacturer revealed that the Italian would be involved in scouting talents. Moreover, he would provide key information about the driver market while also assisting the current F1 project.
The 74-year-old’s role could be compared to the role of Helmut Marko at Red Bull. Thus, his return to the pinnacle of motor racing might be symbolic but would have a large domino effect on the whole transfer market.
