McLaren is having one of the best starts to an F1 season in in recent years. Lando Norris won the Miami GP despite Red Bull’s dominant campaign. Additionally, Oscar Piastri is continuously bringing out consistent results and points. Hence, team principal Andrea Stella was applauding the performance of both the youngsters at Woking.

Andrea Stella pointed out that he was ‘quite impressed’ with the performance of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. Norris’ recent victory in the Miami GP and Piastri’s P2 finish at the Monaco GP further increased the points of the team. Further, Stella noted that simple input was needed for both drivers despite the fact that it came from an experience or not.

I have to say about Lando and Oscar that I am quite impressed with how open they are to input that they can use for their own development. Sometimes this input comes from themselves having been exposed to these kind of collaborations.

Additionally, the team principal noted that they were not only talented but also very clever in terms of driving. Norris and Piastri had an intellectual and analytical characteristic that set them different from the existing drivers on the grid. Hence, the current lineup of the young drivers at McLaren would provide the team with the best possible results.

Andrea Stella claims drivers need ‘good brain power’ rather than just talent

The team principal did not hesitate to further praise Norris and Piastri’s performance at McLaren. Stella claimed that the two drivers not only possessed good talent but also pretty good brain power. Both the drivers were well-equipped in terms of multiple skills. One such example was that both of them handled disappointment during races pretty well.

At this level, you don't just need the talent - you need pretty good brain power, They are very well equipped. An example is how people deal with disappointment.

The 53-year-old reckoned that for being a champion, one should be aware that disappointment was part of the journey. However, also being conscious that disappointment would not be dismissed was another important aspect. Additionally, Stella declared that being a champion was always a bit of a curse and not a blessing.

For a champion, [it's important] knowing that disappointment is part of the journey and how you process it, how you extract the good things from disappointment to grow.

Hence, McLaren will continue to perform well with their current setup of drivers in the 2024 season. Woking continues to close the gap between Ferrari and themselves in the constructors’ championship. Hence, the endgame battle between the top three orders of the team will be highly exciting for the fans.
