McLaren team principal Andrea Stella made a statement at the Hungarian GP by ensuring the team’s success before anyone else. Stella issued team orders to Lando Norris to swap positions with Oscar Piastri, who took the victory in Budapest.

Lando Norris started on the pole but failed to keep his lead when the lights went off. Oscar Piastri showed terrific composure to slot right into the gap to lead the race after the first corner.

The Woking-based team had decided beforehand that the driver leading after the first corner would be preferred during of the race. In light of this, Andrea Stella honored his word, which compelled an upset Norris to give his lead position back to Piastri during the closing stints of the race.

Nobody is bigger than the team interest. People who do not accept that cannot work at McLaren. That is a law.

The 24-year-old was complacent in following orders for a fair duration but later on agreed, in the best interest of the team. McLaren’s win in Budapest sees them edge closer to the championship leaders, Red Bull, who lead by 51 points.

Oscar Piastri labels racing for McLaren as ‘fun’ amidst debut F1 win

Oscar Piastri became only the fifth Australian to ever claim a victory in F1 on Sunday. Piastri has shown his appreciation for the team’s efforts after claiming the top spot in Budapest.

It’s a hell of a lot of fun racing for McLaren, so I can’t thank them enough for giving me the opportunity to be in F1, and to be able to win together 18 months in is an incredible feeling.

Piastri joined McLaren at the beginning of 2023 and has been a promising driver on the grid ever since. The Australian has scored 149 points this campaign, with three podiums and a win to his name.

The 23-year-old has thanked McLaren for their selfless support while appreciating the performance of the MCL38. Piastri has proven his worth to the grid and will be keen on winning many more with the Woking-based outfit in the coming years.
