Oscar Piastri was the driver to watch at the Mexico GP as he hoped to regain his lost form and fortify his lead in the title standings. However, Piastri’s woes began early on over the weekend as he was unable to get a good enough start for the race.

The Aussie will start the race from P7, as compared to Lando Norris, who is sitting on pole position. As such, Team Principal Andrea Stella reveals the reasons behind the 24-year-old’s mysterious fall in pace.

After returning from the summer break, Oscar Piastri was unable to keep up with the winning momentum and hold onto his massive point lead in the standings. A string of woeful results has caused Piastri’s title win chances to diminish significantly against the rivals. Lando Norris and Max Verstappen are just 14 and 40 points adrift of the championship lead, respectively.

Oscar Piastri is struggling to understand the reasons behind his recent slump, while Andrea Stella has been analyzing the situation closely. Stella acknowledged that several aspects of Piastri’s side need reviewing to identify the cause of his drop in performance.

The Italian also noted that the Australian’s car has become much harder for him to drive and perform well in, as McLaren needed to improve on this front ahead of the Mexico GP race.

I was just saying that obviously there’s a little bit to review on Oscar’s side. It’s more difficult for him to use the car when the conditions are so sliding in a way like it was also in Austin. So, something that we need to review and make sure that we improve for tomorrow.

Andrea Stella said as reported by motorsport.com.

Andrea Stella asserted that around every turn and corner, Oscar Piastri was losing milliseconds to Lando Norris, which ultimately added up to a great difference in pace. As such, Piastri needed to get the right feeling in the car and push more on every single corner to achieve an improvement in pace.

Actually, like I said before for Lando, Oscar in relation to Lando loses a few milliseconds pretty much in every corner. So it’s more him getting the right feeling with these conditions and pushing that little bit more in every single corner.

Andrea Stella raises surety on Oscar Piastri’s ‘recovery’ at Mexico GP

Apart from the current difficulties, Oscar Piastri was one of the most consistent drivers on the track in terms of pace and performance. The recent few races have been very challenging for the Australian.

It is expected that the championship pressure is definitely piling up on Piastri and taking a toll on him. Now, Andrea Stella is confident in the 24-year-old to bounce back in the main race and achieve a great finish in the end.

Andrea Stella reckoned that it would be difficult for Oscar Piastri to push himself even a little bit on track without any issue. Hence, there were things that the team needed to improve ahead of the main race.

Regardless of the issues, Stella raised surety over Piastri’s abilities to recover some positions on track and achieve an overall positive finish. The Italian insisted that good results were necessary for the 24-year-old in his championship ambitions this year.

Obviously, it is very difficult to go that little bit more without having an issue. So, something definitely that we can work on and improve for tomorrow. I think the race pace is strong for both drivers. I’m sure Oscar will be able to recover some positions. It’s important for McLaren. It’s important for his championship. So we look forward to it.

Andrea Stella noted.

Such conditions are only making the 2025 season more exciting and interesting. The title winner hasn’t been decided yet, and the battle for winning the title is far from over. Time will tell which driver manages to achieve the best possible finish in the race and ultimately in the championship standings. The end-of-the-season battle will definitely be enticing at the very least.
