Lewis Hamilton has continued to put his focus on racing with Mercedes and improving his performances this season. Despite the Brit’s switch to Ferrari in the coming season, he hasn’t started PR activities with the team. Amidst this, the 39-year-old was rumored to partake in a Ferrari test after the 2024 season finale in Abu Dhabi.

F1 Pundit Andrew Benson shared the underlying truth behind these rumors and provided more clarity. Benson noted that there were ‘zero’ chances of Lewis Hamilton participating in a Ferrari test before the year-end. The reason for this was that the Brit was under Mercedes’ contract till the end of this year. Brackley had made it clear that they wouldn’t allow the 39-year-old to participate in rival team’s tests.

Zero. Hamilton is under contract to Mercedes until the end of the year, and they say he cannot test for Ferrari at the end of the season.

Additionally, Hamilton has worked closely with Mercedes for the past 12 years and with the team’s PU for the past 18 years. As a result, the 39-year-old would also have a grand farewell towards the end of his stint. Benson claimed that Hamilton had a lot of promotional and farewell work to do with the team.

Lewis Hamilton driving for Ferrari would be a ‘momentous occasion’

Lewis Hamilton would essentially retire from Formula 1 as a Ferrari driver. The 39-year-old will drive for the Italian outfit and for the first time in history. Hence, Andrew Benson anticipated that Hamilton driving for Maranello for the first time would be a momentous occasion.

If Hamilton was allowed to drive for Ferrari for the first time, it would have been a momentous occasion.

Mercedes’ recent upturn in performance has enabled Hamilton to end the season in the best way possible. The 39-year-old wouldn’t be disappointed with his last year with Mercedes in Formula 1. Hence, the 2024 season finale in Abu Dhabi would definitely be an extremely emotional outing for him.
