Sergio Perez parted ways with Red Bull at the end of the 2024 season. Checo’s father Antonio Perez made some bold statements over the Austrian team following this announcement. Now, Perez Sr. has once again backtracked on his words.
After Perez was replaced by Liam Lawson at Red Bull, Antonio Perez refuted Christian Horner‘s claims of Checo being in a sabbatical. Though, the 65-year-old soon praised Milton Keynes despite seeming unhappy over his son’s exit.
Now, Perez Sr. has pointed out Sergio Perez‘s comments of waiting for six months before making a future decision. Antonio Perez reckoned that his son could grab any opportunity that comes his way. So much so, that he pointed out the comebacks of F1 legends, such as Fernando Alonso and Niki Lauda who came back from sabbaticals.
Sergio Perez ‘deserves’ to say goodbye like F1 greats
Antonio Perez reckoned that the 34-year-old will stay in the sport for a few more years once he gets another opportunity. Checo did not get a chance to bid farewell to the grid after parting ways with Red Bull. As such, the 65-year-old affirmed that his son deserved to say goodbye to the sport like many greats in the past.
Sergio Perez will take his time before making a decision on his career. The Mexican driver could even be enticed to join a different series, such as IndyCar. However, Checo’s priority would undoubtedly remain a comeback to the Formula 1 grid in the near future.
