Aston Martin began its F1 era with high expectations in 2021. However, the team has often struggled with the effectiveness of the upgrades and finished the 2024 season with a timid 94 points. To resolve this, team owner Lawrence Stroll shelled out millions to acquire design wizard Adrian Newey‘s services for the 2025 season, and team principal Mike Krack also shares a similar hope.
Aston Martin started the 2023 season with an array of podiums with Fernando Alonso. The English manufacturer looked set to bag in at least a solitary victory throughout the 22 race season as they were more often than not the second fastest car on merit. However, the team found itself trapped with the performance that they began the season with as a myriad of upgrades failed.
Despite this, the team hoped to make progress in the 2024 season. Their only highlight of the season came at Saudi Arabia, where Alonso finished P5 with the AMR24. Despite the promising result, the team fell into the cracks of rear of the grid.
On the other hand, Adrian Newey had left the Red Bull camp and was tempted by the massive salary and the state of the art factory next year. With this, Mike Krack explained how they expect the team to bag in sterling results as Newey would acts as the Yoda of the ship.
However, the Briton’s work would start producing effects in 2026 at the earliest. This might mean that Aston Martin might have to endure another season of troubles next year, before they finally get their big breakthrough in F1.
Fernando Alonso deemed Mercedes to be the reason for Aston Martin’s slump
Aston Martin is preparing itself to get its new wind tunnel online next year. Before this, the team had tested their aerodynamic parts in Mercedes‘ wind tunnel in Brackley. Though teams follow strict FIA measures to not share information with each other, the Spaniard accused the German giant’s wind tunnel for the massive slump.
The 43-year-old reasoned how Mercedes was even mislead with their wind tunnel, so they were not alone.
So, the team’s patience and huge investments is expected to fruition in 2026, when the regulations are reset. With Honda powering them and effectively making Aston Martin a works-outfit, the team is slated to shake the world of F1.
