Former Indian motorsport racer Karun Chandhok has analyzed the crash between Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez during the Azerbaijan GP. Sainz collided with Perez during the closing stages, ending both driver’s races.

Carlos Sainz started P3 in Baku and was keen on scoring a podium. On the other hand, Sergio Perez started behind him in P4 and was looking confident in his RB20 throughout the weekend. The two drivers fought vehemently to secure the last podium place but ultimately were unable to do so.

Karun Chandhok has since deemed Sainz as the catalyst of the crash in Baku. Chandhok says that Perez maintained a proper racing line while the Spaniard compromised his, leading to the sudden crash.

Many have classified the crash as a racing incident, blaming neither for their intentions. The upcoming races will therefore be about redemption for both Sainz and Perez, who otherwise performed tirelessly during the 51-lap race in Baku.

Its a real shame that it happened. Not any words to say. It was a disaster for the championship.
Sergio Perez said after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix

The crash massively cost Red Bull, as McLaren now leads in the 2024 constructors’ championship. Perez has since repented of his fate, having driven fantastically for the Milton-Keynes outfit if not for the incident during the race.

Despite the ending, the Mexican showed signs of returning to form after a poor spell. The team will therefore try their best to encourage Perez in order to maintain his form for the remaining seven races of the campaign..
