Lewis Hamilton is having a miserable campaign during his debut season at Ferrari. The seven-time world champion had high hopes of bringing glory back to Maranello. Unfortunately, the situation is not even close. Hamilton is struggling every weekend, with his morale only falling after each race. Now, former F1 Supremo Bernie Ecclestone has asserted that the Ferrari driver should consider hanging up his crash helmet for good.

Hamilton made a dream move to Ferrari earlier this year. The British driver was focused on winning the title with the Italian team. Though this season has been nothing short of a disaster. Lewis Hamilton has failed to grab a single podium finish let alone a race victory. The 40-year-old has blamed himself for the lack of results, even claiming that he was ‘absolutely useless’ for Maranello.

Bernie Ecclestone made it clear that Hamilton was an honest guy. However, the ex-F1 Supremo asserted that if he continued racing for Ferrari, he would be cheating himself. It would be better for Lewis Hamilton to end his journey with Maranello right now than continue to keep struggling. Ecclestone reckoned that if he was in the place of the seven-time world champion, he would be willing to step aside to make way for a new driver. Though, he suggested that Hamilton should demand the payment of his entire contract even if this does happen.

The guy [Lewis Hamilton] is not a cheat. But he would be cheating himself if he goes on. He should stop now. If I were looking after him I would negotiate with Ferrari immediately and say, ‘If you have someone to replace Lewis, he’ll step aside.‘If I were Lewis, I would say to Ferrari that I wanted to be paid all my contract, in full.’

Bernie Ecclestone exposes fear stopping Lewis Hamilton from retiring

Lewis Hamilton has raced in Formula 1 since 2007. In almost two decades, the British driver has established himself as an all-time great with seven world titles to his name. Yet, Hamilton remains hungry as ever for more. Unfortunately, it seems that the 40-year-old is fading amid his struggles at Maranello.

Bernie Ecclestone asserted that Lewis Hamilton was getting exhausted over the constant issues arising at Maranello. The 94-year-old insisted that maybe it’s time for the F1 star to finally get away from the sport. Ecclestone claimed that the one thing stopping Hamilton might be his fear of being away from racing for the first time in his career. Though, the former F1 Supremo insisted that the Ferrari driver should’ve retired long ago.

They get tired. Lewis is tired. He’s been doing what he is doing forever. He needs a rest from it for good, a total reset to do something completely different. He may not think it but he will soon get used to doing other stuff away from motor racing in retirement. I think he should have done it a while ago.

Certainly, Bernie Ecclestone’s words might hold some weight. Lewis Hamilton is not happy with the way things are turning out to be this season. No matter how hard Hamilton has worked with the team, the results are simply not there. Instead of constant struggles every weekend, it might be easier for Hamilton to call it a day. However, the seven-time world champion is not a quitter. It is likely that despite these issues, he will keep fighting in the hopes of improving his performances.
