“F1 bigger than any one grand prix,” Zak Brown warns Monaco GP of danger from Las Vegas GP
Zak Brown
Monaco GP is said to be one of the most glamorous races in the world of motorsport. In F1, the race holds a special place in the drivers’ hearts due to its historical significance and importance. However, McLaren’s CEO, Zak Brown, believes that the race seems to have been given a warning by the addition of the Las Vegas GP.
As quoted by the GP Fans, Zak Brown said, “Monaco always stood for the most glamorous part of Formula 1. I think Miami, Singapore, Las Vegas are starting to add some pretty glamorous markets.”
He added, “I think Monaco needs to come up to the same commercial terms as other grands prix and also maybe needs to work with ways they can adapt their track because as our cars have become bigger, the racing has become more difficult.”
F1 has recently announced the addition of Las Vegas from the 2023 season, thus adding another street circuit to the calendar. The race will take place at the high-speed Vegas strip, at the heart of the rich and famous city of the United States, which is expected to bring plenty of glamour to the sport.
Sport is bigger than any one driver or team: Zak Brown
Monaco GP, despite its lack of action due to narrow track and wide cars, is one of the most loved races on the F1 calendar. But, Zak Brown believes the show that a track or race puts on also matters.
He said, “You do need to take into consideration history but then I think you need to take into consideration how’s the show that it puts on. There is also an element, which shouldn’t drive our decisions but should be part of our decisions, of what’s the economic contribution to the sport.”
Zak although wants Monaco but wouldn’t want any compromises just for the track to have its place on the calendar. He concluded by saying, “I’d much rather have Monaco than not… but just like the sport is bigger than any one driver or team, I think it’s bigger than any one grand prix.”
Zak Brown looks after the McLaren team and looked optimistic before the season began. However, the CEO is keen on improving the team’s performance this season.
