Guenther Steiner

Guenther Steiner and Haas have had a strong start to the season after their half decent previous season. But it wasn’t all rosy as it sounds. It was all a disaster before the start of the season. Haas had decided to drop one of their major sponsors, Uralkali, after Russia decided to declare war on Ukraine. It wasn’t just their sponsor, they eventually also dropped their driver, Nikita Mazepin, from their line-up just before the season.

The American outfit decided to bring back the driver they had fired two years ago. Yes, we are talking about Kevin Magnussen. The Danish driver accepted the offer when Haas came calling and has been on fire for them as he had a dream start to his fresh with his ex employers. Kevin Magnussen finished P5 in his first competitive race in Formula 1. Nobody saw that coming, not even Guenther Steiner.

But, this is only the start and Haas shouldn’t get carried away with it. Every car in the paddock continues to upgrade their car throughout the season to find the edge over the other teams and it’s imperative for Haas to do the same to stand a chance. Haas has been in such situations previously but decided not to upgrade the car and paid a hefty price in those seasons of Formula 1.

Although Guenther Steiner doesn’t seem like a fan of upgradation but he will have to do it anyway, if he has learnt anything from the previous seasons. He recently in an interview, said, “We will bring upgrades.”

“People like to hear we are bringing upgrades, but if you bring upgrades for one, two, three points [of downforce], the part looks different but what does it actually do? That is important for me.”

“If you ask an aerodynamicist, they would bring to every grand prix a million dollars worth of upgrades for one point [of downforce], so that needs to be managed on the budget cup.

“I’m not saying that nobody brings good ones, but I think they are a little bit overrated sometimes.” As reported by therace.

Guenther Steiner’s Haas has been off to a flyer keeping in mind the lack of finances and their early struggles into the season. But if they want to keep it up, they need to constantly improve the car.
