The first half of the 2024 season is about to end and Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz has not yet decided his 2025 drive. The Spaniard had been replaced by Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari and had not yet opted for his next destination. He has multiple options available from Stake, Williams, Alpine. He might also be considered by Mercedes in place of Hamilton or Red Bull if they decide to withdraw Sergio Perez.

Carlos Sainz dismissed the option of sabbatical for a year when asked in an interview. The Spaniard stated that the thought of staying sabbatical never entered his mind. He expressed that he is very happy being a part of Formula 1 racing and he loves the sport very much. Sainz Highlighted that instead of taking a year off or being a reserve driver for any team, he would prefer to stay actively involved. He explained that he would rather join an underperforming team and use his skills to help them improve and find success.

Absolutely not, a sabbatical is not even in my head.I am happy in Formula 1, I love Formula 1 and I would rather go down to a midfield team and help and use my skill to try and find the right way than taking a year off or being a third driver for anyone.

The 29-year-old is focused on finding a team with a car that can be highly competitive. That car must have a strong chance of winning races and ultimately the title. This is the most important thing he considers to set his future in Formula one.

Carlos Sainz admits uncertainty about his future is making racing tough

Carlos Sainz explained that it is very challenging for him to race currently with his uncertain future. It’s not possible for drivers to put their best performance out because of the stress and thoughts they go through. He pointed out that it’s not ideal to be competing at a high level while also worrying about where he will be next year. The Spaniard stated that having this uncertainty about their future makes it difficult to focus fully on his current performance. Additionally, it’s tough to stay at the top of the game when it’s not known what’s coming next.

I've said many times it is not ideal for an athlete sitting here right now to perform at the highest level of their life without knowing where you are going to be next year.

Further, Sainz mentioned that he believes he still has more to offer in terms of his racing skills. Despite the difficulties and uncertainties he’s facing, he felt that he had been performing well. The 29-year-old acknowledged that the situation around him might not be ideal, but he reckoned he had managed to compete strongly given the circumstances.

I do believe there's still potential inside me, but given the circumstances, I think I've been performing at a good level with everything that has been going on.

Certainly, Carlos Sainz believes there’s nothing wrong with his performance but it’s difficult to perform when the future is uncertain. He still believes the potential he has to show what he can achieve, but it’s tough to stay at the top of the game. The F1 season is approaching its second phase ahead of the Belgian GP. Fans hope Sainz will perform at his best at his final stint with Ferrari.
